As per title which is better? and by how much?

Intel® Pentium® Processor T3400 (1M Cache, 2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
Intel® Core 2 Duo® Processor T5850 (2M Cache, 2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)

This is to replace a Core Duo T2400 (2M Cache, 1.83 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)

According to the benchmarks ive seen the T3400 is slightly ahead in 3dmark06, which is strange given it has half the cache, both are supposed to be Merom cores so it shouldn't have an architecture advantage, anyway, advise please :)

P.S please don't bother suggesting other CPU's, these are the best two my T60 will support that don't cost half the laptops value :P

*EDIT*

NVM their both the wrong socket, no wonder their so much cheaper than all the other 667mhz Meroms ^^

What are you planning to do with the laptop?

I run windows 7 in my core2duo 1.6GHz laptop. It runs fine for web browsing etc.

If you are planning to do processor heavy tasks then an upgrade to 2.16GHz will not really give that big a boost anyway.

Unless you can find a really cheap upgrade I am not sure it would be worth the money. You will get better day to day performance boosts from upgrading RAM / HDD as necessary.

Its socket M, and the chipset limits it to 667mhz. If money was no object id go for a T7600 as thats the best the board will take, however as buying a CPU worth 50% of the laptops value isn't a participially smart move :P im now toying between the:

Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2600 (2M Cache, 2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
And the
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7200 (4M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)

They both go on eBay for between £30-£40, im leaning more towards the T7200 as the Core 2's beat the Core 1's when cache/clock are equal so hopefully the architecture +cache advantage should overpower the extra clock of the T2600. Going of benchmarks the T7200 wins in everything bu 3dmark and its only like 60 points behind there anyway.

Nothing really CPU intensive will be taking place, just web browsing, office and the occasional WoW raid. WoW was my main reason for considering the aging T2600 because although very modified now its still a 9 year old engine and it responds much better to clock speed than extra cores/cache/features. But its not really enough for me to go for the T2600 just for that.
