Hi

If anybody could give some expert advice i would be greatfull on the following:

We would like to get a touch screen tablet and while we were on holiday a friend had an ipad and my 4 year old son got on well with that. However, these are expensive and i have looked at the android tablets and thought why would i want an apple when i dont have anything else apple related (eg phone computer etc). Looking at the Android tablets the price range is vast and so this is why i need advice.

We would like a tablet that has the choice of apps, usb connection and compatibility with external devices, camera, fast enough to run a browser and upload photos (ultimately it would be for my wife who only uses facebook). The screen size i guess is not that important as i would rather the device was under £200

just seen i am a thug, :-)

Hi,

I'm a bit of an Apple fanboy, i've an iPhone, MacBook etc. You have to remember that with apple products you're not just paying for the name but also the build quality.

If you look on the Apple website you can buy refurbished iPad 2's for good money and you still get a warranty on them too for peace of mind.

Plus if you wanted to you can jailbreak them which opens the device up and lets you customise a lot of features. Don't worry about the warranty jailbreaking as it's simple enough to restore them back to the stock iOS.

Other than that I'm not too clued up on Android, but the cheaper Android tablets will be an older version of Android and aren't normally supported on newer versions; or if they are then they can be quite sluggish.

Hope this is of some help.

Simon

Not clued up indeed :p

Some of this depends on the size of tablet you want... If £200 is your absolute limit you could probably find a deal or two around but you're best off going for something like this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-033-SO

Latest Android and mid range hardware, using the same chipset in my xoom2 it's quite fast and should handle anything you throw at it. However I would definitely recommend spedning £25 - £50 more and getting a brand like motorola/asus/samsung.

Consider taking a look at 7 and 8 inch tablets also for cheaper deals.

Thanks for your advice
Simon
what is the actual difference from am ipad 2 and the new ipad (any dramatic differences?)

Skyfall
why would you recommend a brand like the above over the scroll elite tablet?

From my understandings it uses their Retina display, a slightly better graphics processor and upgraded camera too.

For what you would use I'd go for an iPad 2, you can buy them brand new for £29 for a 16GB model. The integration with iTunes is brilliant and if you were a music fanatic you can pay for their iTunes match service where all of your songs are available to download over the 'cloud' so instead of having your iPad full of music and minimal room for apps etc you can download what you want to listen and if you want to delete it for room then you can do so.

I'll just say that it really is worth going for an iPad if you can. The iPad 2 is fine, but the screen on the new one really is great.

The original one can be a bit slow now so I'd avoid it personally.

If you like the iPad, get the iPad, the budget Android tablets aren't comparable and even the expensive ones don't hold up particularly well against it. It's head and shoulders above them for most things.

Imho Robbo is right re the ipad iirc the ipad2 refurb is about £260 and would be ideal for a young child to play on and a wife who only really wants to go on FB and Eb, the Samsung galaxy 10.1 is about the same price and gives you the Android aspect of things.

If the £200 is a strict max the Scroll would prob be the best option now but I expect the price of tabs to fall over the next 4 months as the new ipad and the SG 10.1 2 are both much cheaper than folk anticipated and Apple are rumoured to be releasing a 7" tab for about $200 later this year.

Tabs are ace though and since the 7.7s I bought my sons have left my house I've missed them loads even though I have a Note, I only want one for around the house non desktop browsing and reading so I'm wanting to pay no more than £300 hopefully less for a 10 or so inch.

I'm holding off buying for the mo, research research.
