Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a tablet PC for, as the title says general use, and some education (assignment etc.) I have a Samsung Galexy S3 phone so i don't really like the idea of having a tablet with an android OS installed. so that brought me to looking at windows 8 tablets, the main one that have caught my eye is the ASUS Vivotab RT with the keyboard dock, i have read very mixed reviews on this device and i find that a little unsettling.

So im asking for the help of some knowledgeable Tech guys who could maybe give me a better understanding of the Vivotab, or recomend some other tablets.

one more question i do have is, on Windows 8 RT (my sister's Microsoft surface) i can't seem to figure out a way to download chrome and i was wandering if there is a way of downloading it.

Thank you for any future help

Will.

Realistically you can't, on RT, if its not in the Microsoft store you can't install it. As such i'd personally avoid anything RT related unless you're 100% sure you want to use it as a tablet with slight productivity advantages and not a PC, because thats what RT pretty much is, a tablet. I wouldn't even think about getting RT unless you have another desktop/laptop at base to do regular stuff with as you'll find RT fairly frustrating if you try to use it like a normal windows computer..

Don't get me wrong, i like my Surface RT and apart from being a bit overpriced for what it is, it suited me well for my final year at uni. That being said, I had a desktop at home so the powerhouse + mobility device worked in a nice combo.

If using just Office is fine then get a tablet with Widnows RT. If you however plan to use programs you can traditionally use on Windows PCs, then get a Windows 8 one. I guess the Surface Pro is one suggestion, but it's quite expensive and apparently the Pro 2 will be out later this year.

Consider a Dell Latitude 10 - can often find some good prices on their Outlet - I picked up a 64GB Win 8 Pro model, with 3g, for around £300 quite recently....
Has great battery life, close to 9hrs real use, and you can also purchase a 4-cell battery which more or less doubles battery life (interchangeable). The tablet has a full-size USB port, as well as charging via micro-USB, full-size SD slot and will support Wacom active stylus too.
