Behind you... Naked!
Ok, I just bought myself a Gigabyte S10M

Dunno why, I guess I just wanted another Windows tablet cos my Linx died and the surface is rubbish, so we shot it.

Anyway, I have been having a laugh with this thing. It has a 60GB mSata for its storage, and when I opened it up, it has the mSata on an adapter that goes to full Sata sized space, and so great, I can fit a full sized ( but thin ) 2.5" Drive in there, so instantly, I threw in a 120GB SSD, I might splash out on bigger if I find I have a need for it, but for now, the 120GB is just great.

Now, here is the problem that I am having...

It takes Windows 8.1 Pro... I have chucked Windows 10 onto it, for testing and I have a couple of Windows 8.0 Licences that are not used anymore ( Admittedly, not the Windows 10, but if need be, I will buy one )

However, when I do install Windows, the gubbins for the keyboard, does NOT come up!

Now, I can use the Keyboard from the ease of use thingy, I can absolutely do that yes, but the TABLET version of the keyboard does not come up. It does on the 60GB mSata and Im wondering if that is a specific version of windows expecially for tablets? - Im sure it isnt, its just plain Windows 8.1 Pro, but again, why can I not get the keyboard to appear for me so I can fill in any details? - it does while Im installing... Just not once Windows is up and running?

The original 60GB mSata, has a 10GB recovery partition, with 4 .WIM files on it.

Im wondering about using thsoe to make a bootable DVD. How can that be done? Surely there must be a tutorial somewhere? I know that the BOOT.WIM is on the windows disks, and I have a Vista disk maker that also has another wheteverthisfileiscalled.WIM but there is 4 on that recovery partition.

Anyone know what the hell Im on about?

Why not image the mSATA drive onto the 2.5" SSD?

It sounds like you already have the adapters you'd need to connect them both to a desktop PC. A few minutes with Macrium Reflect and you'd be done.

Few reasons...

The guy who sold it to me, says that the recovery does not work right. I have npt tested this however.
Also, I dont like having recovery partitions. Never used them, never needed them, never wanted them.

I would much prefer to have an ISO to put onto a DVD/USB and simply install from that.

In saying that, I never thought of doing that, and so, as an option, I think its my best one for now, so yeah, I might have to do that. Thanks.

Ok, so I have copied the mSata to the SSD and sure enough, its done the trick, so many thanks.
I havent expanded the parttions at this time, purely because I have just spent the last few dozen or so restarts where it has tried to repair itself.
Its all done now though...

Ok, I mentioned that the files were about 4 that are .WIM files... erm, I clearly lied cos there are 6 of them, and they are .SWM files.

These are split are they not ( They are, I know that ) and so, as they are 5x2GB and a 1x1Gig, its obviously for the FAT32 limit, and so I should be able to either join them, or, use sysprep ( I think - I have never done it, but I did read about it before I gave up on the idea ) but there must be some image program that I can find that may let me mess about? - I dont know... I will have a play about, now that I have copies of the files, and see what happenes, see where I get, if anywhere.

In the mean time, any clues will be great, just in case I fail to get anywhere.

Thanks.

And on styarting to give this thing a proper go, I find that the Win 8.1 setup isnt working properly either?

No audio?

Device shows one there, but the speaker has a red mark on it and can I play anything? Can I hell.

Quick plonk of a USB device lets me play stuff for sure, and after a quick search, I have found a load of Drivers for it, and seemingly, it has full support from all versions of Windows from, and including Vista, so why Win10 wont play nicely I dont know? So stuff it Im putting 10 on and sticking with it until I manage to get that keyboard up and running somehow?
