Looking for the above, for notes and course work (and occasional movies).

The person is coming from a MacBook, but would prefer to switch to Windows: maybe, a Surface Pro 9 onwards? Something that is good enough for 3/4 years of Uni, without needing a replacement.

Looking to spend £300-£500

There are a ton of options these days in that range. But if a Surface Pro 9 was something being considered, would need to find more money. Otherwise I think a laptop would be the best option.

Have had a quick look online, OCUk have an Asus laptop around top of the budget, but I've heard lots of bad feedback on their support, so the next available one direct from OCUk would be:
£549.95 - Medion Akoya E15443, Core Ultra 5 125H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Win11 Home, 15.6" FHD

Then looking at a major high street retailer I could find:
£499 - Acer Aspire 15, Ryzen 5 8640HS, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Win11 Home, 15.6 FHD

And then if refurbished is acceptable, I could find the following:
£489 - Latitude 5420, Core i5-1145G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Win11 Pro, 14" FHD, Grade A Refurbished

I've used or owned various laptops over the years, my personal preference would be either Dell or maybe Acer. I have been looking at replacing a 2nd hand Dell XPS 13 I got 2nd hand 3 years ago and it's still going strong.
