Tabletop Warhammer?

I personally prefer drybrushing highlights, post 10,455 in this thread has some photos of Ultramarines I painted this way.

Back then I was 'dry' drybrushing which left them slightly chalky looking - since then i've watched some of Artis Opus videos on drybrushing with a slightly damp brush and the effect is much better.
Very nice! Ref: Artis Opus guide, this one:

Have you tried adding a few drops of flow improver into your airbrush before you add the thinned down paint ?

Also which make/model of airbrush are you using, also the heat here in the UK is pretty extreme so that could be a factor as well.
Was deff a heat issue, going on like a dream in this cooler temp, thankfully!
It's just a cheap neoeco airbrush and compressor i paid £25 off of the net, but it does the trick for what I need

Will be one month since I placed my element order on Sunday. They really need to sort their **** out, don't say something is in stock if it isn't as soon as you place the order.
CBA to cancel it and reorder the backorder stuff elsewhere.

Yeah that is really annoying, I've heard Wayland and Element can both be bad with back order stuff, but I've never experienced Wayland being that bad with in stock stuff (or even release preorder stuff); and actually had a few bits on backorder come in sooner than expected with Wayland, albeit thats just luck I think!

One of these days I'll finish building my army and actually paint something.

Most of my Tyranids are still in boxes but never mind, they were my first army, so the reboot of them can take as long as it needs, but most of my Dark Angels (excluding extras from Combat Patrol and a few conversions) are actually done; just need to finish building and get painting so the colour scheme is somewhat consistent..I'll have a small...err...8K...army...so painting somewhat at the same time felt important as its gonna take a while regardless. I will be cheating a lot as well with the paint job; plan is to rattlecan zenithal brown, then wraithbone, then do a wash over the top, to handle a lot of the armor, and then just spend a bit of time on the detailing.

Wife has roped me into helping with hers the most recent times I've had chance to build...and to be fair I don't blame her, Adepta Sororitas Paragon Warsuits look lovely once done, but definately not my most favourite kit to build!!!

Thankfully a lot of what I have left to build is Terminators (plus a Repulsor Executioner, a few more Hellblasters, another squad of 6 Inner Circle Companions and the Lion) and I actually find Terminators kinda fun to build. Just need to have them all in front of me when I'm doing it so I don't forget to build the wrong setup/loadouts lol
Very easy to screw that up if you've not had a chance to build for a while and had to put things aside haha

Yeah exactly, and because it's only two items, that means I'd end up paying more in postage probably than the items would cost themselves, hence my reluctance to cancel and order elsewhere atm.

Agree with Termies being fun to build (Astartes ones anyway). Painting them is nice too. I thought about bashing some into chaos versions but wasn't really sure how to make them look chaos'y that easy and also cba removing the aquilias and cruxs etc. Don't really like all the fur on the chaos ones.

Yeah, thats pretty annoying, postage is a massive killer at times, its definately influenced me at points. I'm quite lucky in that my (very local) FLGS has a generally very good range, and at least for warhammer carries decent discount and a loyalty scheme, although they dont have EVERYTHING in stock all the time, and there are a few others I visit periodically whilst passing which also have good discount, and mean I don't NEED to mail order most of the time.

The biggest issue I've found, even with TRYING to keep track using a list builder, is doing this over a fair amount of time, its easy to forget exactly where I was up to/what I've done, especially if Ive had to stop part way through a squad/squads and what I need to do next lol
The combat patrol stuff hasn't helped as I cant remember whether I've added it all to my list or not, although I've definately added a few bits; and the planned Dark Angel upgrade sprue parts to add to the mix, and conversions add to that. (Planning to use leftover DWK heads and terminator power fists and storm bolters on two copies of the Combat Patrol/Leviathan Captain for example to give a more Dark Angel Knight themed Captain, x2). All the Deathwing Terminators squad sergeants get upgraded DA Power Swords for example as well, and I cant remember 100%, but I've got a stinking feeling I grabbed some extras to build a normal squad too, that I could relocate the more puny standard Terminator Sergeant to haha

I've heard the Brutalis Dread thats in the Combat Patrol premium kit is a bit of a mare to build too.

Its one thing to remember it all when it was initially planned out. Not so easy 6-12+ months later plus a couple of second hand purchases giving rogue model numbers etc :D
I will definately have to do a recheck of my army list once everything is done incase I've missed anything.

Did pick up a load of magnets and magnetic sheets to go inside plastic crates a month or two back though, and a load of super glue gel to go with it a few weeks ago though, so the plan is that once stuff is fully built at the least, I'll go through and mass base magnetise and then it can easily be stored together which will help with preventing stuff getting mixed up later on, and make it easier to transport. Realistically, although not costing nothing, a hell of a lot more affordable than some of the alternatives for an army of this size, too.

I reckon I spend more time re-gluing magnets on to bases than I do anything else lol. Tried various methods, sanding the base, then superglue magnet on, using miliput make a surround for it and glue that instead, glue gun etc. I think I probably used too strong magnets.

What do you mean keeping track, do you mean track of what painting stage you are at? Also if you're considering it, I personally wouldn't magnetise infantry, it is so damn fiddly and really put me off wanting to do any building. Big easy stuff, absolutely. Also what are you using to keep track? I use the official app as I play a bit and like the convenience but I keep a separate spreadsheet with all my models and their WYSIWYG loadouts. Ultimately people don't really care about WYSIWYG unless you're taking the p.
I have a preference for it but sometimes it's not practical, like the Chaos Havocs can use a multitude of weapons and there is like one of each in the box, so you'd either have to buy 5 boxes or buy spares elsewhere to build multiples. So when I take those I always use the same weapon on all of them on my list as WYSIWYG having one of each weapon would be a bit pants.

I ended up grabbing Loctite Super Glue Gel, I'm HOPING it'll do the job!! I had pretty good results back when I was young building some of the old bigger metal models so...

Keeping track, both in terms of exactly what I've got, because of the number of sources stuff has come from including combat patrol and extra mags, and also what has been built lol
I use a combo of the official app and notes, I do try to keep roughly to WYSIWYG to avoid confusion or mistakes later.

Also not planning to magnetise any smaller units or many models themselves at all, primarily just magnetising the bases to make storage and transport considerably easier :)

I've tried multiple and still they come off when I take them off the metal trays lol. Though as said, I think my magnets were too strong, 2x1mm N50 I think. Oddly I know everything I've got off by heart for what I play, think I can even recall all my space marine stuff too, not sure what I'll ever do with it tbh.

I am hoping the fact I'm using smaller magnets, and magnetised sheets rather than metal trays will help it be strong enough to withstand movement and jolts, but weak enough to come off without too much effort.

Will see.

I can recall a lot of mine too, but just trying to make sure I dont build the wrong stuff when I've got the parts to build the right lol

Yeah hopefully. Though I was using self adhesive sheets before too lol before I got the carry case thing.
Then again, also depends how often you remove them and stuff I guess.

Yeah, I mean a lot of the time they're going to be sitting, I figured superglue gel would at least have a better chance of sticking compared to normal superglue and the likes.

It's part of the day for me now whenever I play, lose at least one magnet and at least two spikes off my terminators :D

I'd rather lose a magnet than a miniature :) and at least it means during transport and storage the models wont knock around too much, best I can ask for really without huge amounts of custom foam etc
