Talking about biting the hand that feeds you! True true people have learned guitar without the aid of tabs in the past and will in the future. But tabs help people learn instruments...people who can play instruments write songs...music distributors distribute this music. GENIUS!!!

When will they learn? I really do despair.

They might as well ban instruments. I mean they are specificaly designed to allow you to infringe copywrite.

Retards.

I don't see the point of tabs tbh.

Developing an ear is an important skill in learning any instrument.
If you're not good enough to figure it out, however long it takes, then you're not good enough to play it.

People just need to start learning the theory behind the 'choons instead of learning them note for note.

Yes but it helps show you what's easier and helps you develop the understanding of the theory behind the music instead of maybe it taking an age to get your head around.

What a joke, i often use tabs when i want to learn a song much faster than if i was to sit down and transcribe by ear. I can't see this being a good move for the music industry, just means another part of the music industry will go "underground" and be shared by other means, pointless to ban tabs really.

Up to a point, yes, but at least this will stop all the people who don't understand their instrument just picking up some tabs and saying "I can play guitar lol!"

Playing an instrument first requires an understanding of the instrument.

What a load of crap.

You might also say that you don't see the point of notation because its written down music and if classically trained musicians aren't good enough to learn Mozart or Beethoven by ear then they too are useless.

Absolute hogwash.

I'm not really attacking tabs themselves, more the extent to which they are abused by people.

Too many people rely on tabs as their sole method of learning, when they could instead be learning scales, rudiments, theory, that would help them further their improvisational skills and creativity, rather than just learning how to play a single pattern.

THAT I agree with, I have a few friends who can't play anything without having to get the tab first, whereas I have always been able to roughly work it out (Sometimes maybe on the wrong string etc) and I class myself as a better player due to that.

Thats the stupidest thing I've heard all day. EDIT: Sorry raz0rr, I wrote the rest without reading your last post. I agree with what you say there :p

I've been playing between a year or two so i'm not that good but can figure most songs out if i put the time in. But I would be no where near the stage I am at now if tabs werent available because they can help you learn the basics first.

Also, not everyone has the time to sit down for hours trying to work out a song. Most people want to HAVE FUN when playing a guitar so looking at a tab then jamming along to you favorate song 10 mins later is better that taking hours to work it out.

I'm not saying its not important to train your ear to be able to work somthing out, but if tab wasn't available anymore it would probably staop a lot of people picking up the instrument in the first place.
