Hi,

In the process of sending a 34 month old Tagan 420W PSU off to Nanopoint (OcUK purchase) for RMA. Lost my proof of purchase so I called OcUK about 4pm to rquest a new invoice, which they gladly did and it arrived this morning. Kudos to OcUK support for that :)
Anyway, I'm trying to avoid having this unit sent back to me for trivial reasons so I've been reading the Nanopoint terms and conditions and I have a few questions.

http://www.nanopoint.co.uk/en/pages/service/rma.php

1)
The Product must be properly packaged in Nanopoint or Nanopoint-approved packaging, with the Return Material Authorization clearly displayed on the outside of the packaging, to obtain warranty service.

What's "Nanopoint Approved Packaging"? I can't find anything about it on the website itself. I've placed the PSU in it's original box with it's original kettle lead and I suppose I'm either going to wrap it in brown paper or put it in a brown box. I take it that's it?

2)
Nanopoint may require proper proof of purchase documentation prior to issuing the replacement Product.

The invoice is on my parents name but the RMA is on my own name. Likely to pose any problems? Obviously it's the same last name and address.

3)
The Return Material Authorization issued will be valid for 30 days.

I presume this is 30 days from the point I received the RMA number rather than 30 days since I requested RMA? If it's the former I've got till the 5th June. I presume they'll have a record of when this email was sent out?

Simply trying to avoid unnecessary hassle. If anyone could advise on those 3 questions, that'd be great.

Thanks,

Mul

When i sent my psu to tagan to nanotech, I put everything in the original box and put that in another box i had laying around with packing materials from some other stuff i ordered. I imagine it would get bashed up with its weight if not in a protective box.

They sent me a new psu in just over a week. (replaced easycon 530 with easycon 580)

just fll in the requirments of the online rma form and thats really all you need. I do add a covernote which goes into abit of detail about the issues and what I tried to do to solve them, but thats just me getting the message over that I dont one the one I sent them to come back ;)

Yes indeed that's pretty much what I've done. Put the RMA number on all sides of the box and inside another description, with the invoice and rma email enclosed. The Tagan 420W isn't available anymore so fingers crossed I get myself something nice in return :)

Yeah, they don't do lower end PSUs anymore, you might be very lucky!!! :)

Mine runs out of warranty in about 20 days. If something has to happen, please do it now!!! :)

Sorry to drag an old thread up.

Anyway, long story short, Nanopoint received the PSU on friday and dispatched a different one out on the same day. Missed the delivery yesterday and got it 15 minutes ago today. Very quick RMA turnaround indeed.

Opening the packaging I found a slightly tattered Tagan box but I wasn't too bothered as I know Nanopoint can send me a refurb unit and it was definitely a different PSU as the serial on the box was different to the one I returned. Anyway, opening the Tagan box I found a different TG420-U01 420W PSU. Now it's got a couple of physical defects that I'd just like to show you guys

Note, it's metal shroud is a bit wonky, sticking out the back and it's got a couple of Warranty Void if removed stickers stuck on top of each other.

I'm going to test it anyway but I haven't got the time to do it just yet. Now, my question is whether this is a reasonable refurb replacement so long as it works or is this unacceptable?

edit - Also, the Serial number on the box doesn't match the one on the PSU. Neither PSU's have the same serial number as the one that I sent to them

Your thoughts on the matter would be nice.

Thanks,

Mul

That in my opinion is unacceptable. They do have the right to send you refurbished goods over a new one but the state of that is just terrible!

I had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing Tagan and as the 480 blew up on 2 occasions. I got OcUK to replace it with Enermax. Now I'm using a Corsair PSU and it's by far the PSU I've had the pleasure of using.

In short, ring them and complain. You paid a premium on a product because you thought the product and CS will be superior. You deserve to exercise that right. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for your opinion, much appreciated. :)

I did feel a bit disheartened when I saw it, particularly seeing that the one I sent off in the first place was in better condition than this

Any point in even testing it?

I remember that feeling. A certain e-tailer sent me a dodgy graphics card (£330) and regardless to say I've stopped dealing with that store. Absolutely shocking. The worse thing was it appeared to look ok but as soon as something that utilised the card (i.e. games) the thing just died.

I wouldn't test it, get on the phone to Nanopoint. Be polite, it always goes a long way :)

Nah, screw missing is too far.

Edit: Actually, that's the mounting, can you actually get a thread on that?

Yep, mounting. If I really go for it, I think I can. Put the case in between and quite possibly I won't be able to.

Just an update, I had a go at testing it today and other than the external damage, the rear fan seems to be striking a component inside, causing a ticking noise. Sometimes that fan doesn't seem to want to rotate at all. I've sent an email so we'll see what Nanopoint make of it.

I also recall Tagan's having a ticking noise about 4 years ago, not sure if that's something to shout about but just an observation from when I had one. All the best and keep us updated :)
