Tailgated at the 40 speed limit

Hi All

Getting tailgated and flashed at whilst driving at the 40 speed limit does get me wound up. I won't go into specifics but just need to vent.

I would pull over and let these people past, but they are obviously so incensed that you are driving in the legal manner, that you wonder if it's safe to slow down for fear of them attempting to attack you, so you just keep going. If I don't know the road, I won't be bullied into going any faster, I don't want any more speeding tickets thanks.

I am seriously considering buying some kind of in-car camera device just so I can record incidents like this in future.

I try hard not to rise to it, I did let them past when it was safe to do so, whereupon some form of projectile was dispatched from the passenger window. Sometimes I despair of humanity.

I hate this. Constantly pushed to do more than the speed limit in 30s and 40s round here. Bad on the dual carriageway as well, get tailgated overtaking... I don't want to do 85 like you, sorry.

I had this on Saturday coming from Lakeside on the A13. I was minding my own, left lane doing 50 as the speed limit suggests. No cars infront of me admitiddly but I have no reason to break the law and speed.

Some **** in his ML500 what not, then see's fit to tail gate me for a further 4 miles, dipping his headlights and all sorts of hand gestures in his cabin. The two lanes to his right were free flowing enabling him to over take me. I was so ****ing tempted to brake and let him rear end me. ****ing idiot.

I dont let it bother me, I simply sit there cruising along knowing that a quick jab of the throttle and they'd be gone anyway.

Annoying isn't it.

In my ATR the only people who tailgated me wanted to race me. I had a Fiesta following me before which got a bit too close for my liking so I quickly jabbed the brakes just so the brake lights flashed on (didn't actually brake). It worked because he wasn't expecting it at all.

Haven't had any tailgaters in the vRS yet, probably because people round here think I'm a cop :D

The incident was an aggressive driving act by White Van Man. As soon as he was behind me I could immediately sense he was going to be trouble. I could tell he was in a hurry. In between the 40 zones, my efforts to appease his frustration by accelerating as quickly to 60 as I could were probably misinterpreted by him as me playing a game. Admittedly, because my car is quite high powered, he did keep falling back in my mirrors, and due to the nature of the road and frequent 40 zones, he kept getting left behind. With some people you just can't win. In future I will accelerate out of the 40 more gently and try and let them get past and out of my life as soon as possible.

I was on the way to work recently when a woman pulled out of her blind driveway directly onto the road without looking. Think she had a bit of a shock when she looked in her mirror and saw it was full of Manta. So, she decided to brake test me just before coming to a T-junction.

At the give way, I stopped behind her and indicated she was a self pleasurer, which made her get out of the car for a confrontation. She said I might want to watch my speed through "her village". I said she might want to look before pulling onto a main road, and wondered aloud if it was really a good idea to be brake testing someone in a 20 year old car with no ABS when she has her 2 young children in the car?

Think about the possible consequences of your actions before doing stupid bravado acts.

Really, my driving in this case was faultless, it was totally legal, zero error driving, but you still get tailgated and flashed. That is what is so sad. If I had been on a dual carriage way and lane hogging I could understand it, but to be driving at the limit on a single carriageway, such aggressive driving from a tailgater is unforgiveable.

While I totally agree, I really hate when people pull into the outer most lane as I've clearly been driving up towards where they are at a faster speed and they overtake someone 1mph faster than said person in the inner lane. Drives me insane.

People with inaccurate speedos driving at a GPS 35mph on 40mph dual carriageways in the outside lane thinking they are doing 40 annoy me.

I think the lesson I learnt from this is to pull over much sooner when you get someone like this behind you, but really the thing that made me not do this was they were freaking me out so much by their driving, you wonder if it's safe to do that ...
