Anyone had a tailor made suit, was it expensive? Did you think it was worth the money?
Just fancy getting one for the hell of it and want one that fits well, so i feel like a sharp dressed man, only ever had ill fitting off the peg suits and one altered by a tailor.
This is how i see it :D already have the beard although mine is a little grey:eek:

Cool song by the way.

Yes I have a few, and yes they were worth it. However, you don't need to spend thousands, you can get good ones for up to £500 if you hunt around and know the right people.

I imagine being a gym rat you look good in a suit, i myself being of slight build always felt awkward in a suit so its important that it fits well. I would pay £500 - £1000 for a well made suit that made me feel good, gave up smoking a month ago and have quite well kitted out home gym now that i intend to use to 'beef' up a bit, although @ 41 this May i feel time is passing buy so quick.
I will have to hunt for a good tailor.

Yes I have had a few made, the most expensive being around £1k.

I would not do it again, I find buying a high quality suit and then getting that fitted give you a much nicer overall product.

However I get all my shirts made as I feel thats money very well spent. It costs me about £45 per shirt.

You don't need to spend that much, but it depends on what you can afford. :)

Yes having a "decent" shape, does help add to the cut of the suit - but that shouldn't stop you getting one. However, I'm not likely to change much in shape, so just be aware of that.

The other option as Dr House suggested is getting a decent suit and having it altered.

Decent shirts are worth their cost too I reckon - but I love tailored /slim fit shirts they do complete "the look". :)

Been down that road and still didn't feel right , maybe this was down to the tailor.

I find good quality shirts fit me quite well, sometimes a little tight across the shoulders but usually Im happy with a quality shirt.

Yeh just feel like going the whole hog, waist coat and shirt and some nice Italian hand made shoes too.

As others have suggested, I think I'd probably go and buy a decent suit, and get it fitted. That said, if I was looking for a tailor, I would probably ask for recommendations from friends rather than just picking a random place on Saville Row.

Also, tailored shirts for £45?! Where from Dr House? Would be quite interested if you felt like trusting me details?

I've been looking into getting a tailored Tom Ford later in the year, as these are normally bespoke fitment.

How many organs will you have to sell for one of those:p

They do look nice though.

When you say tailor made, do you mean made to measure or bespoke? Both have the potential to turn out well, although both equally could turn out worse than a decent off the peg suit that's been taken to a competent tailor for alterations.

If you can find a well made off the peg suit (e.g. nice fabric, fully canvassed), that fits you well in the shoulders, then that's probably a good starting point.

If you're after a cheaper Tom Ford inspired suit check out Suit Supply - some of their styles seem to have taken inspiration from his suits.

If your still in KL?

I have used a lot of different tailors however by far the best was a guy in Phuket. I now get him to send me all my shirts.

Generally I have not been impressed with the tailors in Thailand but the above tailor is very good.

Most suits need to be brought in as if it fits the shoulders it's unlikely to be flattering owing to the straight cut of most suits.

At least if it fits in the shoulders then the rest can be solved relatively easily by a tailor. Conversely if a suit doesn't fit you properly in the shoulders (like in the photo posted by the OP), then you don't stand much chance.

Thats the problem, if it fits the shoulders then the rest is terrible, even when I had one altered it wasn't quite right. A bit stuck for quality tailors up here in sunny Hull, had one altered here, about the best i know of local.
