(taken with a Pentacon 50 1.8 - manual focus with a M42 to EOS adaptor)

Did manage to get out though and managed to get a few, only one worth putting up here though as the place we went wasn't that photogenic. Went to see Spiderman 3 afterwards! (rubbish imo!)

Taken with the new Sigma 17-70 - Only levels in ps, no extra sharpening. Very pleased with its performance so far.

How does the M42 to EOS adapter perform then? Do you have to adjust the aperture manually etc? You recon you can get M42 to nikon (f?) fit?

Everything apart from the metering is manual! I have been using the camera in M mode (400D). You change the aperture on the lens (the screen lightens or darkens when you do this) and obviously focus it. I am finding the focusing a bit hit and miss at the moment, but I think that will come with practice.

Yes you can get M42 adaptors for Nikon - I have been paying £1.50 for mine (4.99 postage though - bit of a rip but ah well)

You can get focus confirmation adaptors but they cost about £20-25. I will see how I get on before deciding on one of these.

I have also been recommended to replace the focus prism screen, this apparently helps with manual focus but I don't think I want to get too intimate with the insides of my 400d just yet!
