Take a look at my new mods

My new wheels came today which I bought off of a guy from IMOC. They are in pretty much as new condition with the only damage being to the lug holes, which is to be expected really.

They are lightweight Rota Slipstreams in gunmetal with a polished lip in the sizes 17x7.5 and 17x8.5. They weren't my first choice of wheel but as they are mint and they came up for sale at nearly half the price of new ones I couldn't really not buy them.

As you can see, I now have some T1Rs instead of those Linglong and Nankang things..

Before anyone says it, yes I know it needs to be droped 30-40mm and that is second on my list of things to do, the first arriving sometime this week hopefully. Its worth noting, though, that my street is on quite a steep hill and it looks a little higher on that side of the car than the other.

I am going to use this thread as a sort of 'project' thread for when I get all my new bits and bobs, although it won't be as fast moving as some of the other project threads there are in here.

I really like them. When I bought them I was unsure on how they would look on the car but now that they are on there I think they look spot on! They have made the handling of the car better as well as making the ride less harsh.

I wasn't sure on the polished lip as it seems to be a chav favorite around here but I quite like it.

I received my new EMS Powered digital boost gauge yesterday and woke up extra early today to get it all fitted. I bought it through a group buy on IMOC and it was made and shipped from the USA.

It's a quality piece of kit and cost me £65. There is a highly precise, medical grade pressure gauge mounted in the engine bay sending the info to the gauge which is mounted in the dial cluster where the OEM boost gauge used to be.

Here is the standard boost gauge which was pretty crappy. It basically showed you weather you were boosting or not, and that's about it.

And here is the new one. As you can see it has a very OEM look about it.

Also, here is a quick crappy video I took of it in action on the way to work. Youtube downgraded the quality of it a lot!

Yeah, the fit is really good. Its designed to fit in place of the OEM one without modification other than drilling a hole for the wires to go through. There is another gauge on the market which requires a lot of hacking of the dial pod.

There is a switch that you mount on the dash somewhere that allows you to see peak boost achieved when you tap it. If you hold the switch down you get various options like how long peak boost stays on display, the resolution of the reading(1.0, 0.5 and 0.1 PSI) and the brightness level along with a dimmed setting for night use.

When it comes to me lowering the car I am not planning on slamming it but just a drop of around 30mm so the gap is smaller. I know what you mean about the wheels matching to the curves of the arch and that is what I plan on doing.

Just a little update.

I ordered some red 5-way LEDs for my dials and they arrived today. The old bulbs emitted a white light but I wanted red ones to go with my boost gauge and it looks a lot better. I am going to take the boost gauge out tomorrow and tape up the sides so that the electronics inside aren't illuminated like in the picture and I will also wire up the dimmer so that its the same brightness as the dials.

Yeah it is really easy. It takes me about 3 minutes to get the dials out now

Just thought that I'd update this age old thread. There's no new mods but I polished the car back to full redness this weekend and thought that I'd take some pictures on my DSLR.

Just when I think that I'm getting bored of the car all I need to do is give it a good polish and I'm in love again! Although, my time with her may be limited as I think I'm going to have to sell up if I get accepted for university

I don't really understand what you mean by that? Surely an analogue boost gauge will be changing the readout at the same rate? :confused:

I suppose I can see what he may be saying but it's not really that hard to read. It's just the numbers after the decimal point that are constantly shifting - In fact, you can change the resolution of the readout to be accurate to 0.1, 0.5 or 1. It has a peak hold function, too.
