I think I built a pretty good system a year ago cost close on £1500 quid :eek:

Thermaltake Kandalf Super Tower
DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-DR;
Opteron 144 overclocked to 1.8
2GB Ballatix Mem
Artic Freezer with Artic 5
7800 BFG Video;
2x 300Gb Segate Seta II;
600w Streader PSU
20" Samsung TFT

What should I upgrade first performance aginst bucks. Please bear in mind this is general a games PC and nothing else!!

Games like x3, Lord of the Rings,Unreal, C&C

yeah, games are soon to be multi-threaded, also you can play games while encoding a video for example. A dual core cpu is much better and makes windows and games more responsive. Either get a x2 3800+ or a 4400+, the 4400 would be better but is a bit more expensive.

This is the easiest upgrade you could do really, and one that with your system will make the most difference.

Also maybe an X-fi soundcard later on!

Which one or should we be gearing up for amd2

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA4600BVBOX) (CP-128-AM)

- 2.4GHz operating speed
- 512Kb L2 cache

Price: £139.95 (£164.44 Including VAT at 17.5%)

or £70 more

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA4800CDBOX) (CP-129-AM)
The flagship X2 processor on socket 939 is now no longer in production and OcUK has sourced the last remaining stocks in the UK. Now at over half its original sell price and easily overclockable to FX60 and beyond speeds be quick to grab one of the last remaining 300 units we have.

- 2.4GHz operating speed
- 1MB L2 cache

Price: £199.95 (£234.94 Including VAT at 17.5%)

because it is less than half the price, the cache makes little diference to performance and most are overclocking to 2.7-2.8ghz

Dont get a 4600+

I think most people here say: X2 3800+ over X2 4200+. X2 4400+ over X4600+.

Get the X2 4400+ imo and overclock that but def not a 4600+, plus the 4400 is only TWO.
