Hey guys,

(first of all if this thread needs moving, please move it)

I am flying from Glasgow to Germany at the weekend, and I want to take my Formula rampage, my q6600, and 8gb of ddr2 ram with me. I have put the cpu and the RAM in an anti-static bag. I still have the original case for the Motherboard so i put it back in there (and the antistatic bag into the acessory box).

So ideally I would like to carry it in my hand luggage (a spacious backpack), as I dont trust the people handling the suitcases.
Has anyone got any idea what airport security will make of someone travelling with those components? Will I have to explain stuff etc? Anyone carried parts on a plane before?

Thanks in advance for any help,
jerry

do u know if the uk pc suited for the UK 230v 50 Hz mains will work in germany?

other than that i dont see any problems with taking it on the plane. phone your airline prior to leaving or now if you want to double check.. i doubt they will stop you with it... and if they say no.. just UPS the stuff on 1st class special delivery.. will cost a bit but it would be worth it..

I am gonna use the mobo cpu and ram, and build myself a rig over there with other new components, so I will get a PSU in germany too. once I have the money the mobo and cpu etc will get upgraded but its not essential atm.

Yep... no problem.

I've travelled back from Scandinavia and Europe with expansion cards and RAM before now.

The security x-ray will be ok as well, will not effect parts. Best to warn the security guy first before it goes through or just put the bits in a seperate tray just so they are in plain view

Shouldn't be a problem. I've transported a graphics card, hard disks, and other miscelaneous components in hand luggage before. As above it's probably worth mentioning to the security folks when you go through the check. I frequently travel with a ton of camera equipment too and again no hassles. Worst case you wll have to empty your bag for security. Far better than the alternative of putting it in the hold and having the baggage handlers play football with it, jump up and down on it, run it over with a steamroller...
