My wife's 08MY XC90 has arrived at the dealers yesterday. Been inspected and had couple of dealer-fit options installed.

I'm about to pick it up tomorrow and wanted to check with you guys what kind of a check-up should I perform? Please bare in mind that the dealership is about 200 miles from where we live...

Any suggestions of what to look for and what to check would be welcome!

Cheers,

NC.

Check the paintwork VERY carefully, preferably under flourescent lighting (ie at a petrol station) for defects and more importantly, swirl marks. I would imagine this car has cost you many thousands of pounds - accept nothing less than perfection in the paintwork department.

If it is indeed perfect, then there are many guides posted on this forum which will help you keep it that way :)

I'll add check the spec carefully, make sure everything you should have is there.

Try any electrics, basically push every button and make sure it works :p

Colour match between plastics and metal

Check the fit and finish of every bit of trim, plastic, bumpers etc.

4 wheels are pretty useful. ;)

you could ask to see the PDI form and manually go over everything to make sure the hairy arsed apprentice monkey has not missed anything.

Cheers guys, much appriciated.

I'll take a mate with me just to have another pair of eyes checking the bodywork and will certainly try every button and option.

I can't emphasis enough how important it is to check the paintwork - I had a courtesy car with 6 miles on it, it came off the transporter as I waited for it - first time I filled it up under the forecourt lighting and the paintwork was a mess. Covered in swirlmarks.

The monkeys who wash them off the transporter to get the transport wax off are not quite detailingworld enthusiasts :(

Ive yet to see a brand new car without swirl marks tbh, dealer prepping is generally awefull.

I ended claying my ST when it was a few weeks old,you should have seen the crap that came off it

Check everything including Tyres carefuly...
When i picked my new VXR up from the Dealership after it was supposedly prepared i noticed not all the transport wax had been cleaned off properly and there was a screw in one of the front tyres?

Whats the max mileage allowed on a car to give it brand new status? I seem to remember it being 13 miles. Anymore than that and it has to be classed as used.

Got to echo Fox on this one, make sure the paint is perfect. You've paid plenty of money for this car so it should be absoloutely pristine, plus if you don't check it well and find a dent or scuff later on (which you know you didn't do) won't the dealer blame you and refuse to touch it back up for free?

Make sure it has the correct number of doors, colleague of mine was picking up his new company ST, came as a 3 door not the 5 he ordered. He was a little upset to say the least, had to be rejected due to company policy.
