It really is easy!!! Or has been so far!!!

I got a Dell Latitude D610 given to me the other night!! Only problem no charger and the base/chasses is cracked so needs replacing.

After fannying about with Idians on the phone with Dell i took it apart,

The sliver top trim come off
2 screws on the key bord
Unplug the super thin and light keybord

Right below the keybord is the Slot A RAM SLOT. I'd already checked Slot B and it was 256mb, i was gutted but all websites knew it has 2 slots. Anyway Slot A was unhocked and whooo 256MB again!!!

So far i got a free laptop, 512mb DDR2 533 ram!

Now CPU!!!

I was shocked at the size of the stock coolers as to these laptop ones, this being my 1st time of mass gutting a laptop!

It's a small triganle thing with 3 screws holding it down!
Little bit of ratterling to shake the heatpipe and fins lose and pull up and off core the core.

SKT479 is held in with a screw of 90* so undone that little pop out come CPU

Intell 750 Dothan 1.86Ghz...again i was happy as!

So all in this is a pretty good system!!

I've got my hands heled out for a 780 as my misis lappy will have the 750 i think as i hate it being slow when icome to using it!

I'm going to upgrade my ram to 2GB i hope if not least 1GB, cpu and maybe GFX...i've yet to find it or toy with it!

I shall get pics of it all.

In regards to the base i'm tempted to get a custom layered based made form carbon fiber!!! How cool would it be! I can get it done all the case for under £50!!!

Anyway i duno where to post this so move at free will, havent seen a laptop section here

Sounds like you've got some good plans for it, must be nice to just be given something like that :)

You're right about it being really easy too - me and a friend completely dis / reassembled a MacBook Pro last night. Unlike other manufacturers the CPU is actually soldered on to the motherboard in these, but I was shocked by how small everything was in there. Also we found out that MacBook Pro's can pick up WiFi without having any aerials attached.

I'm going to tear it all to bits and bobs and will get plenty of pics, trying to get a charger for it now, a PA-20 or a PA-12 as it has non!!!

I just got my 2GB ram for £75 posted how cool is that!!!
