i just bought 2x4gb corsair vengeance and since i didnt get the retail 1090t, it didnt come with a heatsink, so i bought an aftermarket heatsink - the thermalright venamous x.

unfortunately it doesnt fit over the ram and i have read that heatspreaders on ram are useless anyway, so I am going to take them off

i dont mind if it voids my warranty but how do i go about doing it?

thanks in advance

Nevermind, i got it off then realised if the cooler was turned 90* it would fit, so i had to put the heatspreader back on =P

It's worth noting that you want the fans on your CPU HS to point at your case fans for improved air flow if it makes any difference to the way you have it now.

Don't try to remove heatspreaders that are epoxied to the chips because the chips may come unsoldered from the circuit board. But if they're instead attached with double-stick tape or soft glue, insert a thin razor between them and the chips, and apply heat from a hair dryer
