Ok so i have the following -

Canon 550D
Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 DXII
Sigma 30mm F1.4
Sigma 18-50mm F2.8

I have a friend who lives in Finland and im going over to Helsinki to spend new years with him, its going to be roughly -15 and we are planning on doing some cross country skiing. I like taking landscape images hence the shorter focal lengths of my lens so weight isn't going to be an issue but my question is will my gear be ok in those sorts of temperatures?

I will be taking my Hama day tourer 230 bag, its well insulated, i have read up about acclimatising my gear ie no sudden changes from hot to cold, but will my camera freeze up?

Also how would i best set my camera up for taking images in very white scenery ie WB, exp comp, filters etc?

Any help and advise would be much appreciated

It should be, but note this

You battery won't last as long, get spares, keep spares in your pocket.
Careful when entering indoors, put it away first and let it acclimatise slowly or you will end up with condensation inside.
Get some silicone gel for your bag.

Ok batteries in pockets check

Dial in anywhere between 1 and 2 stops of overexposure as a default exposure will tend to give you greys in the snow which isn't what you want at all.

Ok cool, do you think i will benefit from any filters? CPL? grads?

I echo what Raymond says, you need extra batteries and keep them inside you outer clothing close to you body.

Wb should be easy with the white snow. The metering will underexpose by default so you want to push that up but be careful not to clip your highlights in the snow.

Also you need to take care of yourself, don't ignore the dangers of frostbite if it is starts going below -20. Get some large down mittens and wear some thinner polartec or liner gloves inside the mittens, then you can take you hands out of the mitten but keeping the thinner liner on to change camera settings.

Very good idea about the polartec gloves and mittens :)

TY gents this is what i am looking for, i know next December is a while away yet but as my boss keeps telling me "prior preparation prevents **** poor performance ;) "
