Hi,
There have been some pretty huge hints aimed at me recently that my mum and her boyfriend (man that sounds like they are 12!) want a nice portrait shot done in the upcoming months to replace the old ones that are around. Now portrait photography has never been my thing and the little I know about photography is in other areas so I'm trying to do my homework on the subject. As I cant afford any books I'm pretty much limited to the free guides on the net so can some one point me in the right direction please? Another help would be some examples of decent couple photography to give me some ideas.

As far as equipment goes I have my 400D to take the pictures, and I was thinking of using my dad's old 50mm prime (M42 fit) which will go down to 1.8 to blur the background. It's either that or PS them into a decent background shot or just do a white background in PS. Opinions?
Cheers
-How.
