Taking stuff that isnt yours

Its exactly this sort of thing that makes me think 'Next time FU, its mine'

Like what i did when i was younger, walked all the way to the address shown in the wallet then got a door in my face for my troubles

Those of us with morals do things because they are the right thing to do, not for thanks or a reward.

Found a ruby and diamond ring on Queen Street in Cardiff last week.
Handed it in to a passing plod who seemed grateful that someone had at least handed it in as opposed to pocketing it.

If it ain't yours, don't keep it.

tbh if you were in a hurry you should have just left it there. usually when people lose an item they then trail the path they have been and look for it.
for all you know you were a minute away from letting the rightful owner find their property.

Oh look! Someones Ipod is left right there on their desk at work. They've lost it... oh well, finders keepers! :p

My phone went missing a couple of weeks back. I've a feeling I left it on my desk when I went home. I reckon someone *****'d it, instead of, say, putting it in my desk drawer.

Yeah in retrospect I should have just left it on the floor but I didn't want it to get walked on and broken etc. I did wait around for nearly 5 minutes on the spot with it in my hand and nobody came looking

Depends what it is and the circumstances really. Property I'd make every reasonable attempt to return it and then hand it to police I think. Money...slightly more complicated if loose but a purse or wallet as above really.

If i ever find a wallet purse, i really dont see the problem with keeping the cash (under £50, after all you shouldnt really carry around £££'s with you incase you loose or get mugged) and handing it, sort of like a finders fee.

I've lost my wallet before and have been called by the police to come and pick it up albeit minus £30 inside. I mean seriously, what would you rather, be eternally grateful that someone handed it in and got rewarded for their trouble(seeing as they could be going out of their way to do this) or loose your wallet/purse forever and have to cancel all your cards, get new drivers licence, store cards and any other crap you've got in there causing you a HELL of a lot more trouble than just loosing a small amount of cash? Be reasonable here is all i can say, because unless your a criminal i dont certainly have any use for a couple of cash cards and a drivers license, so a small fee for handing it in is all i ask as most people won't or wont give you the proper thanks you deserve!

As to phone, call a home number if possible
As to camera ipod etc.. this is harder as people can claim stuff that isnt really theirs in some circumstances! i would hand in but would be worried that the people the desk might end up keeping it instead :(

Recently picked up an envelope with £250 in Tesco with "Josh's Party" written on it with loads of "kids" party food written on the back.

There was no way I would pocket that, handed it in.

I'd always return the stuff because its the right thing to do, someone could be frantic somewhere because they lost their purse with bank cards etc I personally couldn't be responsible for putting someone through that by not doing the right thing and handing it in. Also I have lost my purse a few times and been quite distressed because I keep my uni library card and everything in there ( if lost £10 for replacement ) .. always got it back though because people have been kind enough to hand it in.

If I find anything that appears to be lost I will either see if there are any obvious contact details else I'll hand it to the authorities. Even if there is money in a wallet and the police themselves may nick it, that's their conscience and karma. I'll be content that I did the right thing however.

I thought this was the norm but reading replies it seems it's the minority :(

So hang on, you find a wallet with some cash inside it, so you take the cash out and hand the wallet in? Exactly how is that not stealing? You have a wallet with details in it, and a means to locate the owner of the wallet, but yet you still choose to pocket the money? Nah, that's just immoral to be honest. I really despair at the state of society these days.
