I pay for Virgin 20mb service, and I understand that there is some traffic shaping that I am likely to have as I downloaded AOEIII earlier.

But I just did a speed test and got the results of
1596ms ping
1.6mb down
0.04mb up

I don't think anybody else in the house is downloading either.
 
If you use over a certain amount they cut your speed down. How much have you used today?

:edit: Didn't read thread properly. That's what I'd expect to get.

:edit2: Apart from the shocking ping, which I somehow managed to avoid reading the first 2 times.

I am also on Virgin's 20mb and also downloaded AoEIII earlier and I just did a speed test and got 19.5mb download rate.

I did download AoE this morning, and maxed my download speed. Sayign that I'm sure the restrictions only ome into effect if you download above a certain amount at certain times of the day.

That doesn't look correct, even for traffic shaping, especially the ping (unless that's a one off anomaly)

I believe 20mb goes down to 5mb. (not 100% sure)

What was it like before you made the download, and was that slow to download too?
 
I am with Bethere on an 8meg service. My connection has been dire for the last week or so. Supposedly a Countrywide fault on their Network :o :(

No idea what mine is supposed to be, im from the old NTL 4MB which was upgraded to 10meg at some point, not sure if its changed again now..
 
I'd say there was something wrong even if you're being throttled.

When I get throttled (On 10mb) I go to 2Mb/s down and about 20Kb/s up. Ping around 50-100ms from 20ms.

Although you can avoid it, Just do all downloading between 3pm-4pm and 9pm-9am ;)
 
Someone is uploading something on your connection, "thinking" is not "knowing" so find out who.

20MB throttles to 5MB if you download 7.5GB during 10am-3pm or 3.5GB between 4pm and 9pm) for a few hours.
