taking the bull by the horns

PS1 and PS2 had some truly kick arse RPG's. In fact, looking back, I'd say the PS2 was the 'golden age' for console rpg's.

How's it looking on the PS3 in terms of RPG's?

Disclaimer:
I'm not asking to troll and stuff, I genuinely want to know and I haven't researched it. I know FF13 is in the works but that's a long ways off yet.

EDIT:
Darn, thread moves fast! So basically what Surfer said :) and thanks for the Disgea heads up Inoshishi

I've gone off Haze now, the silly launch dates have come and gone so many times that I've stopped caring.

Oh, and the fact that Free Radical told everyone the story a year ahead of time hasn't helped

The first 30% of the game is going to be as hollow as a shell, knowing that you eventually switch to the resistance.

I digress..

Thanks for spoiling that one for me!

If you've read anything about Haze you'd have known that.

Dr. Doak loves spouting it any chance he gets. Not knowing that is like not knowing night follows day.

I have a 360 and drove to the shop today and actually had the PS3 in my hands but "chickened out" of spending 400 euros on something only I would use. I felt guilty about not spending it on the wife and kid so put it back.

Come on PS3 owners convince me it's a must have :p

i just watched ratatouile(br) on the ps3 i was blown away by the picture quality and ive only got a 720p tv set , i have not stoped using the ps3 since i got it for film and gameing

Well I wouldn't compare it to knowledge that was inherent at the dawn of mankind but I get what you mean

Just get your mrs a new mop and the kids some sticks to play with in the garden. Then you have the TV all to your self while the wife cleans the house and the kids play outside... this means you will need something to keep ourself occupied so you need a PS3 ;)

I own an Xbox 360 and a PS3.
My 360 is used far more than my PS3 does when it comes to gaming.
Unless I hear that a multi format release is better on the PS3 (something I've yet to hear), I always buy the game for the 360.
My PS3 has only been switched on briefly the last few weeks and at the momement, I haven't got into blu-ray movies.
So, until the hot new exclusive titles are released for the PS3, I wouldn't personally rush to get one unless you want to get into blu ray movies and I certainly wouldn't trade in my Xbox 360 for a PS3.
Personally I would say spend the money on the Mrs & kids for now.
Once the new exclusive titles for the PS3 arrive, then buy a PS3 and use it along side your Xbox 360.

I think there is probably very very few people that own both the PS3 and 360 that equally play them the same amount.. you see most people saying "I have both, but hardly use console 'x'"..

Personally, I'd not even consider the PS3 at this moment, unless you really are struggling to find decent games you like on the 360. The reason I say this is simply tha
t if you wait until the end of the year, you will have some more AAA PS3 titles released, and come christmas, the PS3 will no doubt have dropped in price, and hopefully have the Dual Shock 3 controllers included, and maybe some good bundles may appear.. this way, you can get it as a christmas pressie, which takes the sting out of the family aspect etc..

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I think the blu-ray looks superb and for that alone the PS3 is worth 399€ no problems. My video shop has started stocking bluray to rent so it has increased the "hmm perhaps" factor.

I have a psp and the interconnectivity is interesting as well. Also I have 2 friends locally who have PS3s but again 400 euros is 400€ it's a weekend at disney, a nice trip home flights to barcelona. New shoes, shirts etc.

I'm a gadget freak and don't know how often i'd use it but I hate people having something I don't have hehe had it since I was a kid. But I think i'll stick with the 360 for the moment. (Just ordered Condemned and have PGR4 and FIFA 2008 to keep me amused).

haha, Surely anyone that's watched any of the trailers knows this already :D

But it's 100% right, It would have been awesome if the story was kept hushed up, But now, It's going to feel hollow as you said. I kinda just echo'd what you said EVH but it's pretty much how I feel about the game.

I'll still be picking it up, But there's just no secrets left :(

I bought it much to the disappointment of my wife.

However, I must say looking through the games list it's mostly :meh

I have the new 40GB one so can't get the PS2 games to play :(

But I've read that I can play PS1 games? Is that true and if so what ones work.

There are always loads for sale in my work's intranet the bumph says "most" work but knowing me I'd buy the ones that don't. And do PS1 games upscale nicely. I'm thinking mostly of Resi Evil Series which i'd like to replay and silent hill. :D

s'okay I found it http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/bcGames.htm

THere are some gems in the PS3 lineup, however if you own a 360 i imagine you will have already played the majority of the good non-exclusive games, definitely get Drakes Fortune if you haven't yet.

PS1 games wise, i haven't tried a game that didn't work yet. In terms of upscaling, Resi Evil won't fare well, as only 3d models can be upscaled, the 2d backgrounds will still look rather dated. I imagine Silent Hill will fare much better as iirc the whole game is 3d based?

Dont forget to get your self some of the great PSN games Pixel Junk monsters, Super Stardust HD, Warhawk and Tekken 5 online. All worth a purchase and a few have demos. Its also a good idea to set up an account for the US PSN and for entropay so you can buy some of the US only( at present) games such as Pain, High Velocity bowling etc.
All PS1 games ive tried work and there are a few available on the UK/US PSN stores for about £3.50, if you have a PSP you can play any PS1 game remotely, and the ones on the PSN can be installed to a memory stick and played from there.
Get some of the demos from the store and have a go on some of these games, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance and Motorstorm are all very good games and all have demos.

LOL - after all this and you didn't investigate it properly

Not another case of a guy who didn't research the PS3 before buying. Of all the things that may have convinced you to buy it, you didn't check the most important factor; the games? The PS3 doesn't come with an automatic 'I win' feature you know, the gaming side of things are under heavy dispute and scrutiny right now.
