Having a new washing machine delivered tomorrow. I noticed that Currys will take the old one away for £15, however according to the WEEE directive, they should be taking it away free on a like for like basis?

The old one has been on life support since I met my now wife (it's 16 years old). It's got more bodges and fashioned metal than you can shake a stick at. I *think* it might be the controller or it might be the door lock mechanism.

My wife wants me to turn it into a fire pit....

After checking, the government website says they have to take it for free in store on a like for like, but CAN charge if it's delivered. In Ireland it's different.

I'm more upset that they dragged it through the house and didn't use a trolley because they didn't have one. Yeah, right.

Complain then if they damaged anything by dragging it. I worked for a large dept. store during uni summer holidays a decade ago and they ended up paying for someone to get a kitchen floor re-tiled after the dishwasher installers scraped it all up.

If they caused damage I would complain

Just pulled up the carpet and left load of polystyrene bits everywhere.

Fortunately I bought an auction lot a while back and it had a carpet puller in it :D
