Ho on earth can you take time off at such short notice without telling your employer what it is for?

Do people general tell them? call in sick? Make something up?

I've had MS on the phone asking me to go for an interview on Monday, that's so short notice that there is no possible way I can get the time off without either calling in sick (which I hate as I've had a lot of legit illness recently and it will make me look a ****) or telling them I have an interview I need to go to.

If I say that I have an interview I know that their whole way with me will change as they come to realise I am looking to leave.

Tricky one! Especially as I have one on Monday, one on Thurday and a hospital appointment on the Wednesday! lol at the moment I've only got the hospital appointment agreed with work and they weren't even happy about that.

Argh!

Well, it's only Marks & Spencers, although I suppose the staff discount is attractive.

Yes, if it's very short notice, call in sick. You telling them you have an interview, and therefore thinking of leaving, will give them no reason to grant it

Remember, you can self certify for that length of time (Mon - Thur)

Self Cert for a few days due to work related stress or the squits?

lol the trouble with that is that I've had a couple of weeks off earlier when my liver nearly failed and they are still bitter about that. Next thing I know I'll be getting a verbal for having too much sick time.

But you're planning to leave? It's by far the better option than telling them you have an interview! Sense man, sense
