Taking tripod in carry on luggage

Wondered if anyone had any experience at Heathrow I just bought the Manfrotto compact action tripod and want to take it in my carry on bag aswell as my DSLR.

Reading around I seen old posts a few years ago people saying being questioned I am heading to Vietnam if going to be a bother I will just put it in hold luggage.

I'd put it in hold luggage these days

Some airlines are OK with it being carried on, but had my Gitzo taken off me too many times now

Flown to Iceland, Italy and Sardinia with a very compact Velbon tripod strapped to carry-on LowePro camera backpack without it getting a second look over the last 18 months.

Interesting I will probably go with hold luggage take weight off the back aswell

I just bought a Gitzo traveller and didn't want to risk it so put it in the middle of my suitcase with clothes under/over it. No Issues. Carried £10k worth of bodies and lenses onboard though.
