I've made this thread for people to talk about a album that they like, not neccessarily their favourite just a album that they enjoy and would like to write some words about why its dear to them.

I'll start mine is...

Third by Soft Machine.

Third is a double LP featuring 4 songs each filling a whole side of vinyl. This is considered the peak of soft machines output and its not difficult to see why.

Soft Machine at this period were

Robert Wyatt - Percussion, vocals
Hugh Hopper - Bass
Mike Ratledge - Organ
Elton Dean - Saxophone

You will notice if you happen to research this album there are a lot more musicians credited on this record but these four are the main members of the band at this time.

I won't do a song by song review as I find that a bit boring and difficult but this album is a neccessary inclusion in any fan of progressive rock music or jazz fusion.

Ok, I'll have a go...

With a background very much in rock I was very surprised to find myself extremely interested when I first saw Lianne La Havas first appearing on Jools a couple of years ago.

She sung songs in a style that had previously been of little interest to me, but I was captivated by her guitar playing and stunning voice (plus she is a bit easy on the eye ;))

Her debut album "Is Your Love Big Enough" is an enjoyable voyage through various genres like folk, soul, jazz.

Standout track for me is "Lost and Found", it really showcases her vocal power and control and lovely chord progressions:

And to demonstrate her ability to play live and be utterly enchanting :D:

Ulver - Themes From William Blake's Marriage of Heaven and Hell

An album I enjoy and revisit from time to time. It's a progressive mishmash of electronic landscapes, guitars and an ambitious full incorporation of Blake's epic poem as lyrics. Can be a bit weird.
