Hi guys,

I currently drive a 2011 Jaguar XF S Premium Lux, which i've owned for the best part of 3 years. The car has been fantastic, very reliable and hasn't cost me anything other than consumables, I love it and I still smile to myself when I glance over my shoulder as i'm walking away from it.

But, I've got an itch to scratch and that itch is forming in the style of a Fiesta ST-3. When the conditions allow I enjoy spirited driving and while the Jag is fast, it's a bit heavy and wallowy (sp?) when it comes to the twisties.

Much of the cost of the Fiesta is covered in the Jag, so cost to change would be minimal. But, I'm fully aware that whichever spin I put on it, going from a Jag to a Fiesta is a hell of downgrade and I'm concerned I may regret it after the novelty wears off.

Has anyone done anything similar and lived happily ever after?

Hire one for a day and see if the positives of the Fiesta outweigh the negatives? I really like the STs, plan to own one in 2-3 years but I think 9 times out of 10, the Jag would be a comfier, more luxurious place to be? The 1 out of 10 being smashing it on A roads

On the two occasions I've bought a car from the class below, I've ended up getting rid and buying in the class above not long after.

I went from a Xantia to a Focus, which I chopped in for a Mondeo after 9 months. Second time around I went from a Mondeo ST TDCi to a Mazda 3 and that started to grate after 3 months, I put up with it for about 18 months and bought another Mondeo.

These drops are far less than the scale you're considering.

The Fiesta ST is small and pretty hardcore compared to an XF. I like a spirited drive, but a lot of the time, particularly on a cold winter night, I just want to get home with no fuss in a comfortable and quiet car.

That said, my uncle who is a large man in his mid 50's bought a Fiesta ST-3 a few months ago and absolutely loves it. His wife hates being a passenger in it. She has a high spec diesel auto Focus that they tend to use for long trips.

I just picked up my new ST-3 on Monday.

It is bloody hilarious in the twistys. The ST-3 has enough kit and gadgets to make it feel decent as well.

Don't expect a comfortable ride though...ever (though the seats are excellent).

This seems like a ridiculous idea. Ok, so the XF is far from the best executive car out there but a Fiesta ST is something you might have alongside an XF but not instead of one.

Perhaps if you want something more enjoyable the answer is to look for an upgrade to the XF?

The novelty will wear off if you're used to a certain level of luxury. You won't be hooning it round B roads very day.

Best answer yet ;)

Once you have had a limo anything small sounds like a pebble in a bucket.

Why don't you keep the jag and find a cheap contract hire fiesta. Or if you don't need the rear seats and want something fun do it properly and buy something like a Cayman
