Morning all, I've kind of got my heart set on this build .... Don't ask why because its the first time I've ever thought about going custom.

As I've mentioned before its literally for photo editing and some video, but also as I've got the money I want to future proof it a little bit.

So Talk me out of this build or tell me what you'd change ...... for the better.

No ive came up with it from looking at a few different sites and builds

I don't really want to spend more than £1200 built as I want a Dell 2713hm monitor to go with it

Ok.

I will do you a better spec right now using bits from OcUK:)

Motherboard has a 5year warranty and a free upgrade within 3 years - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18631511

Silenced case with sound deadening and the Noctua cooler has 100% RAM clearance so you can fit tall ram and also fill all four dimm slots. It also just happens to be whisper silent.

2400MHz RAM - faster = better;)

Be-careful of the Dell U2713HM, there has been many reports of bad backlight bleed.

You may find this one ok,

PSU will take 2 GTX 970s in the future
This GPU is way overkill for editing though, will you be gaming at all? If not stulid's spec is probably the way to go
Unfortunately the RAM is out of stock, so you could either wait or go for an alternative
Did you want 2x 3TB hard drives or only the one?

Any GPU is overkill unless you're sure you'll get any use out of it.

Some PS filters are accelerated and some Premiere stuff is too but maybe make sure it's worth from 10-20%+ of your build budget depending on GPU.

Saying that do you need hyperthreading?

It took me ages to decide on my build and I mean months.

I needed an all round machine that will fit under the TV in our front room.

Maybe see how you get on with the IGP...I could always run a test or two for you if you want, seeing as I'm close on what you're looking at.

If its just photo and video editing getting a 970 is pointless, as said, very little of PS uses any GPU and the same wouldgo for the small amount of video too.

If you were rendering videos 10+ hours a day a High end GPU (ensuring the software supports GPU rendering) will help as GPU rendering is quicker, but it only by around 20%, so for the small amount you do, its 100% not worth splashing a lot on a GPU, the 750(ti) is spot on.

As for i7 vs i5. If it was just photoshop the i5 would be grand, as PS is single threaded, so the i7s hyperthreading woild have no effect. Video editing is different, it will use all the cores you have, so having more makes the process smoother and quicker.

In your situation, if you have the money, go for the i7, if the budget becomes tight, i5.
