Talk me out of this nexus mindset

Hi Fourstar

I am just a noob user, I know what ROMs are but never explored them. I had a google and I wonder if you meant resurrection remix:

That's the one. Been a while since I was last using my N4. I started using community ROMS after google stopped releasing updates. I used the Android Toolkit for backing up / rooting the phone.

To stream music - I assume that is via wifi?
Yep, though It just occurred to me I can load up the internal storage with music as I'm not using it for anything else.

A few years ago I wired a line in socket and a 12V input into an old radio. I recently bought a Bluetooth receiver I plan to fit so I won't have to plug the phone in. Amazingly they appear to have doubled in price since I bought one.

Sorry, I'm a Nexus fanboy so can't help you there. I personally don't see the point in buying any Android phone other than a Nexus or Pixel model. I can't understand why anyone want to spend £500 on a Samsung Galaxy only to be stuck waiting for OS updates and security patches. In many ways to me the software is even more important than the hardware itself these days.

Ashamed to say it but if it wasn't for Google's own Nexus/Pixel line I'd probably go for an Apple iPhone rather than be left at the mercy of Samsung, Sony and their ilk!!! At least with Apple you know you're guaranteed OS updates and support for about 4 years after buying the phone. Post sales support from other manufacturers is an absolute lottery.

Right now to me the Nexus 5x is such a fantastic package for the £250 you can get the 32Gb version for I don't really see much point in buying anything else! Going forward I'm not sure what I'll do as the Pixel line is now priced alongside the iPhone so it's going to be a tough call which to go for if Google don't release another Nexus handset. I'm not sure I want to go back to spending £500 plus on a phone after I've seen how good a phone costing half that can be these days.

Understood. But do security updates really matter. There are tons of Samsung happy bunnies with their weird curvy screens and posh cameras.

I don't know a single person who has had a security problem with any mobile phone. What is is we are supposed to be worried about?

I feel the same. Which is why I have bought the 5x whilst I still can. But what on earth are we going to do moving forward?!

Spend £600 on a phone?? :confused::eek::mad:

I agree, google has let us down. £600 is too much. There should have been a range of fees.

For example, can't the existing hardware run the new Android? Or a simple tweek and create an entry level phone with updates for very little R&D.

I've gone an bought the 5x. ;)

It made sense. Affordable and going to keep pace with Android for at least another year.

The other handset I was looking at was the OnePlus 3 until I found out it was a 5.5" device.

Where did you get it from if you don't mind me asking? I too have a N5 and after seeing the Pixel offerings, I'm weighing up whether to go for a 5x or 6p.

I'm also at a loss on what my next upgrade will be from my current N6, I don't finish my contract until second quarter next year anyway. But I'm not seeing any interesting options currently, I want at least a 1440p screen so the OP3 isn't an option.

Oh well :(

Unless you want to see extra when browsing... Why? 1080P is plenty for <6" screens. Unless the screen is under a microscope, you won't notice the difference in PPI.

5mm taller and 2mm wider and a slimmer profile. Hardly anything in it.
