OK, I'm very new to overclocking, as I am fairly new to computers (this is my first build). Anyway, to the point, I have read the guides in this forum about overclocking, but to be honest, it all sound like nonsense to my mind, but that's just me. Basically, I would love it if you guys could talk me through overclocking, anything that would make my PC faster. I don't want crazy speeds, I've got a AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition @ 2.8GHz and I would love to get that a bit higher, but I really don't know how. I know it voids warranty, so I definately do not want to take it to speeds that will shorten the life tremendously, just something that will make a small but noticeable difference. Also, can someone talk me through overclocking my ASUS HD 4890 @ 950MHz, and my OCZ Platinum 4GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz, if that's even possible. Thanks guys.

Hey max76249,

you do realise most of the information you seek is peppered across the many thousands of posts in these forums right! :D

The main attribute of someone who is keen to begin overclocking and tweaking is a desire to learn and a slab of a strange virtue called Patience.

I suggest you spend a week or so skimming any posts or web reviews to give yourself a primer, there are many different hardware platforms now and each one has a slightly different way of overclocking i.e different settings . . .

You have also asked for advice clocking your memory as well as graphic card so alongside your Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition that is a very big ask of someone to patiently talk you through the lot! :p

I'm keen to help but it's probably better you separate the three areas and divide and conquer i.e concentrate your learning on overclocking your main system first, then maybe the memory followed by the GPU, don't attempt to learn about all three at the same time and certainly don't overclock all three at the same time otherwise you will explode! ;)

Just patiently follow through many of the threads already posted and if there are specific points you need help with then ask away!

Just to put your mind at rest it is very unlikely you will damage anything if you pay due care and attention to what you are doing, slowly but surely if a good way to work and generally keeping your hardware cool works wonders!

Have you read through this thread, have you asked any questions there yet?
