OK - i'm building a new PC and not sure which was yo to PSU wise. PC will be mid-high spec, one gfx card with the possible of two in the future.

I was liking the look of the Hiper, but have read some not so nice material on them. My last PSU was a Tagan - which I had zero problems with so i've been looking at the new Tagan Modular 430W.

Any other ideas?

What rig was you going to have? Tagan have released a new psu last week there 900W and 1.1KW , Silverstone ST75ZF (750w) will be out in UK next week.

4400 x2
2GB PC3200
x1800/x1900

Something along those lines - Think 700W+ might be a bit over kill for my needs :)

Cheers for the help guys.. Been reading review after review pretty much all week in my spare time.. ordered a few bits to start off my build..

Enermax Liberty 500W ELT500AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CA-025-EN)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR)
Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Black Aluminium Midi-Tower Case (No PSU) (CA-054-LL)
DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-013-DF)

Gonna use the rest of the bits from my shuttle till I can fund my x2 4400 / 2GB ram.

just hope to got OcUK ship me the PC-7 with 120mm back and front! (please!! :) )

Overall Watts of a PSU does not really matter so much though.

It's *where* they are that matters. For current systems most of that power needs to be on the 12v rail(s).

The Enermax Liberty range seem pretty good so I think you made a good choice there, although you may not be able to run X1900 crossfire on it. The 500w manages 32A on the 12v rail. Should be fine for SLI (7800 range at least) or single X1900 though.

Just for comparison with other often mentioned PSUs, the Enermax 620w has 36A, the Hiper Type R 580w has 30A max, the Seasonic 600w has 36A.

The real 12v monsters (that are sold here) seem to be those like the Akasa 650w (42A) or the FSP Sparkle 700w (43A estimate, may fall on a OC'd x1900 due to rail div) though I have no experiance of the quality of either brand.

Anyone else looking to get a PSU should be careful of older PSUs even from good brands due to the change in 12v use in PCs. My Tagan 480w is rated only 20w below the Liberty but has only 28A on the 12v (48w less on that rail). It does match up well to the Hiper which is 100w total more yet only 24w (at best) of that is on the 12v rail.

Cheers, i'm not really going to be wanting to run dual x1900's tbh - would be rather overkill for my needs. Like you suggested i may use one x1900/x1800 or even two 7800's i'm not sure which was to turn yet.
