Hi Guys

Having some real issues with my current ISP, well to be more precise there wholesale provider being Entanet. They have now rolled out throttling across the board and since that kicked in on Wednesday Ive not got over 1.1mb.

I do download quite a bit so there unlimited offpeak is very handy for me. But I am also a gamer so decent stable connections are a must

I am now in the market for a new ISP who offers a simliar server to what ADSL24 did but sadly no longer appear to be able to deliver.

Sadly there is no LLU provison in my local exchange other than TalkTalk and I've seen there near Pro package.

Seems quite decent having spoke to them on the phone they say I should get 22.6mb connection and the FUP is only invoked if you hit 500gb downloads every month which Ill not come close to.

Any one got any opinions on the Pro service and talktalk in general, I know there support is outscourced to the sub continent but they do seem to have an active and responsive forum site.

If talktalk is out of the question who else can you suggest thats not LLU.

Ta in advance.

In the same boat as you. Only AOL and Talk Talk at exchange. I have signed upto ADSL24 simply for the 1 month contract so I have time to see what package suits me. Talk Talk Pro is currently top. Speed wise it's perfect.

However, there is no guarantee the speeds are gonna be like that for the full 18 month contract. Imagine the service starts deteriorating 4 months in and you're exchange gets Be enabled or fibre gets laid down..... not nice. Also seems to be a lot of hassle just to sign up. If I have got it right we need to first sign upto the 40GB package and then call up to get moved onto TT Pro. That probably will not go smoothly. I'd wait till they take online signups atleast. Since Talk Talk take your phone line, I think we would then need to pay BT to reinstate the phoneline if we migrate away?

My exchange is getting 21CN enabled in the next few months so I hopefully can have a good service from Entanet, which then means Talk Talk Pro is kinda useless, besides the 500GB cap ofcourse. There is also IDNet who do a great 21CN package to consider aswell.

I guess what I am trying to say is give TT Pro afew months to mature and prove itself with speeds before you tie yourself into an 18 month contract.

Cheers for the reply Greg.

Sadly 21cn is a distant dream for me until 2011 which isnt ideal for now.

The talktalk thing has a 30 day refund policy which is nice to know if its gunna be any good or anything, you just pay for the month you've used and then move on to your next supplier.

You can go direct to pro if you order over the phone you dont have to mess about with going on essentials and then upgrading, plus that way you get a free wireless N router either Netgear or Dlink.

Im gunna give Entanet this week to stabilse if not Ill be more eager to take up TalkTalks offer.

No problem. :)

Yeah, I suppose that 30 day policy would be ideal to test it out. Afew questions though. What would happen when you leave though if it is rubbish? BT would charge you for getting the phoneline back to them? It'll be an LLU MAC code aswell so won't that incur like a 30 quid migration fee to another supplier on ADSL?

But yeah, I would give Entanet another week to "fine tune" this traffic shaping before jumping ship. I go live on the 16th for the Office 45 package. I'm gonna give that till the end of November and then consider Talk Talk.

Just did some more searching and looks like Talk Talk is a no go for me.

Typed in my exchange and got "Not accepting new customers Unfortunately it is currently not possible to add new customers to this exchange. TalkTalk will update us when more information is available."

Probably won't change for awhile it seems. A company that is not cramming as many users as it can onto an exchange to congest the network? Impossible. :P

My exchange is showing plenty of space so we shall see.

I did some more digging last night and it appears that there offpeak period for "pro" users where there is no traffic shaping applied is Midnight to 3pm everyday.

Traffic is shaped only from 3pm till Midnight which should optimise the gaming still with plenty of time for downloading.

I do like a lot of what im hearing about talktalk at the moment and its really starting to change my mind about them being a cheap cowboy company.
