Been kicking myself since yesterday over my possible stupidity.

Had a couple of cold callers on my door step yesterday saying that my area had been selected for free internet.

They said that all I had to pay the phone rental and I would get up to 24 meg internet.

After asking who the isp was they said talk talk which should have warned me as I think I've read on here talks from people not happy with them.

I signed up for it and now have two weeks to cancel now but....

When I signed up I only signed up for talk uk anytime. As they said they shouldn't sign me up for both isp and phone at the same time a they are meant to come back for a seperate visit.

They said I should get a mac code off my isp and then ring them up to activate my net.

After reading on the net this all sounds incredibly fishy as there is no mention anywhere of anyone getting the pro package for just the price of a phone line rental.

I've also read quite a few horror stories on the net about talk talk so now I'm thinking that moving from sky is more trouble than it's worth.

Has anyone heard of this before or have I just been sold a useless package so they can get some comission.

hmm god knows talk talk are really shady people, i can get 24mb off them but id rather stick with my 8mb from what ive been told.

im saying that my mate gets 7mb speedtests off thier 8mb package which i really should check out in peak time.

if its fast in peak why not go for it, also u said it was free, so why 2 weeks to cancel?

sounds like ur being hustled into a 18 month contract with no means of proof but a cold caller?

be careful, get written proof of everything, if in doubt, cancel and get out! :D

oh yea i used thier speedtester a few times as well to see wht speeds i could expect, i refreshed it a few times and got a call for each refresh of the page, i tried my mums number, my unlce and talk talk rang them too lol

so if you want to **** someone off just enter thier phone number in the talk talk can u get it checker a few times, perhaps a few thousand times?

they will never stop ringing haha

If your already on Sky LLU I would most definitely not move to talk talk at all!

I think I will wait until I got the documents off them and cancel it.

What should have made me think hmm that's not right is when I rang up he said don't mention the internet package yet as we aren't supposed to sell them both at the same time.

I guess they are comission based and just wanted the sale.

Depending on where they have the call centre I might actually complain about them selling me a package that doesn't exist.

What you have said just doesn't make any sense. The bit I'm concerned with is them saying they will have to return to see you again. It's right that there is two stage process, one to get the line across and then a second to put the broadband over it. But there's no way they would be making two trips when all the paperwork can be done on one visit. If it smells fishy......

Don't wait. Cancel. Tomorrow.

Watch out that they aren't going to grab your line completely and hook it up to their LLU operation (though saying you'd need a MAC might indicate they haven't LLUed your exchange; offering free service might indicate they have, Samknows should say either way).

If that happens, your ADSL's gone and you're looking at a reconnection fee for both the voice and ADSL services with a fair chunk of downtime for the latter...

cancel ASAP before they pull you over to there systems, as its the 24mg product they will be pulling you over from bt to llu, this process can take a while so do it sooner rather then later.

When one of the reps was on the phone putting through the order the other one said to me don't mention anything about the internet.

He said this was because they aren't supposed to sell both packages at the same and usually have to visit again.

I'm going to ring up tonight and cancel it.

Next time I'm going to pretend I'm not in and not answer the door.

Whatever you do, CANCEL it immediately. TalkTalk are the shadiest bunch of scum I've ever dealt with.

We had a salesman on our doorstep and he told us that we could get 24mb broadband, free calls and loads of other stuff, I told him I have 11 months left on my BT contract and he said TalkTalk will pay the outstanding, this sounded a little too good to be true so I took his card, sent him on his way and rang TalkTalk, they said I CAN'T get 24mb and they don't pay off people's broadband/phone contracts. I rang the salesman back and told him this and he said that the road next to ours can, my niece's other half lives in the next road down, he can't get 24mb either.

My boss also moved all of our exchange lines on to TalkTalk, half the time we can't dial out to mobiles and the other half the customers complain that they either can't hear us or the line is very noisy.

Managed to cancel with strangely no problems.

I told them I couldn't even see the package I was offered on the internet. And after reading some of the customer service and service stories I'll stick with my own isp and phone provider.

Hopefully I should get written confirmation in the next few days.

I've just done exactly the same (stupid) thing as you doozer.

The sales rep that came to my door assured me that all their call centres are UK based and they have recently won many ISP awards. I've just phoned them twice, the first call the (Indian i'm guessing) woman hung-up immediately when i told her my order tracking number. The second time the operator (also Indian) told me he was unable to find any reference to my order and i should phone back in the morning, even though the sales rep has just given my details to a colleague shortly before this. Oh, and each time it took them in excess of ten minutes to answer my call.

I'm usually fairly good at saying no to people who come to my door, though it seems i've failed tonight. After looking at the reviews, which I should have done while he was still here, I went for a walk to see if I could find him but i'm guessing he was in another unsuspecting customer's house.

I'll phone them in the morning and hopefully the cancellation process will be as painless as you say.

haha good to see I'm not the only one that falls for it.

Luckily they weren't selling timeshares or I would be in trouble.

The number I rang wasn't on their pamphlets I got it as they left a recorded message today and I panicked and rang them up quick sharp.

The number I rang was 0844 453 3100 and I just gave my home number dob name etc and then started my moan hehe.

Just phoned them, really thankful for the number doozer... managed to get through to an English person who answered immediately. I just told the chap the package wasn't right for me and he cancelled it no problems. He said they'll send written confirmation in the next 7 days.

I think i'll give them a call back in a couple days just to confirm it's been cancelled.

Panic over!

I've been considering Talk Talk as the only LLU supplier available to me, happy with my current connection but I'd like to be paying less like lots of other people.

Anyway, think this thread has put me off, probably for the best that I read it.
