now I've seen a few of these being taxied over the last year or 2 and as some of you may know my Vectra was written off last week.

I've has the pleasure of having a Peugeot Partner Teepee (or whatever the heck its called) on hire for a week now and I have to say apart from being slow suits my needs to a tee.

seats 5 adults comfortably, swallows up more luggage than I can shake a poo covered stick at and seems quite happy to give decent mpg figures round the town in comparison to the Vectras.

in case anyone is wondering what the heck i'm on about its one of these

Few questions for you guys

I assume this is the same 1.6 diesel lump in this that ford are using atm along with a few other people? any known problems with either the engine or the car in general(other than being French?

My dad had the 2.0 HDI variant from new (2004 model). It's not had any problems whatsoever and he just abuses it day in day out. It is a rattley old van now though compared to what it was. I suppose as that's essentially what it is, a van. It feels very tinny and the driving position isn't to my liking. I don't think I could do taxi shifts worth of driving in one. Maybe the newer models are much better though.

not really, the loaner I've got this week is a 12 plate with 15k on it but feels more like 10 times that. but the practicality and sensiblness of it is shining through. at first I was like eewww, then it was meh, now I kind of like it. its rough and simple although quite how it would take 1/4 million miles I don't know

I think you just found the "gotcha" with this one. In 100K miles, let alone another 235K miles, time is it still going to be seating 5 adults remotely in comfort? Or will they be bounced around in a noisy tin can with a ruined interior that goes wrong every other shift?

You may find yourself needing to budget more for refurb and replacement if you go for something like this than you might in a larger higher end car. Not to say it might not work out better and cheaper anyway but take the (hate myself for saying this :( ) total cost of ownership including bad customer experience into account.

My mate had one of these and I used to sit in the back to and from work.

It has loads of room in the back....lol

When the headrests are fully lowered they stick in your back...lol

The finish is not luxury it more just plain basic hard plastics but it did the job.

We have one in work with the 1.6 diesel I think. We have a "van" version and drive it about 12 miles a day around a business park.

I don't know what to tell you particularly. It does the job.

It's nice enough. Engine is adequate for puttering about. It's neither notably quick nor notably slow. Interior is pleasant enough for a van. Better than our Sprinter. The driving position is rather upright. It's so bland I am having a hard time having opinions about it.

As mentioned though, it does tiny mileage. Unsure how it would be on higher mileage / longer journeys.

Build quality being kinda poor is the only problem we've had.

The doors keep blowing in the wind and ripping the doorstays out. It's done it twice now. Not very reassuring really. Maybe this is normal for big van doors?

put 1200 miles on my loaner in 5 days and have to say i'm rather smitten with it.

I don't want to like it but its growing on me. i'd imagine i'll have it for a few weeks yet before the insurance sort things out. but I can see my buying one for myself. my only concern is the longterm problems that may arise as whilst I know a few taxi drivers with berlingos their all under a year old.

If you want something a lit bit more modern/cooler - look up Citroen C3 Picasso . We bought one a month ago, and have put on 1200 miles already - absolutley fantastic. Read all the reviews first on the net.

I've hired a few Berlingo and Partner vans and have been impressed with them. The 2008+ model is a world apart from the previous generation. The 1.6 diesel comes with various power outputs but mostly the same figures so I'd look for the most powerful.

I'd consider one as a van. Never viewed with a taxi in mind. How much can you get an S-max for these days? It's very similar to the Mk4 Mondeo but possibly better suited for taxi'ing. Despite my above praise I'd always take a Mk4 Mondeo estate over a Berlingo for taxi work. Titanium X 2.0 diesel as I suggested before.

My wife's dad has an older berlingo as his vehicle for his business (gardening). Loads of interior space, and in a minute can be turned back into a car if needed. He doesn't exactly bless it with care, but it seems to hold up well to tools, lawnmowers etc being thrown in the back all day long.

He isn't mechanical in the slightest and it has been utterly reliable in the 3 years he has owned it and been incredibly cheap to run. Much better than any of his previous vehicles.

However, it isn't exactly quiet on a run, and I'd think even be would admit the interior isn't ideal to sit in all day long.
