About to hop out and grab either one of these because I've just found £30 worth of vouchers left over from last Christmas, I'm looking for something that really sucks me in with RPG elements, which do you recommend and why?

Also performance may be an issue these days, so how are they likely to play? specs are:

Opteron @ FX57
2Gb RAM
7800GT

Cheers guys.

Bioshock

Witcher is nice, but too many flaws in the game that make it frustrating to play at times. It could have been such a good game, but fails in my opinion :(

+1 Bioshock.

Cracking use of the UT3 engine, novel genre and engrossing storyline. Graphically superb, ambience is fantastic. Despite Crysis, CoD4, Stalker etc... still ranking joint 1st as my fave game of the year. (Portal being the other one).

Should play OK on your spec, although it struggled in a few places on my 7950GT.

Would you care to elaborate on the flaws you're on about in The Witcher? I have it and I have enjoyed every minute of playing it, and they have all been trouble-free. The game is engrossing, although the voice acting can be a little corny every so often, but the game itself is beautifully made and the story-telling is immersive to say the least. If you want a compelling game that will give you a really good ride, I would say go for The Witcher. You won't be disappointed if you enjoyed games in the style of NWN.

I played Bioshock and it didn't really have the same appeal for me. Sure, it's a technical marvel and looks damn good, but I just wasn't gripped in the same way that The Witcher gripped me. I really like the RPG style of NWN and games like that so naturally The Witcher is my preferred style. Your taste might be different, but if you read the thread here about The Witcher you will notice that pretty much everyone has something positive to say about the game. That surely should speak for itself.

I doubt you'd have any trouble with it on your rig :)

Ahh don't talk wet , glad you're a minority in your viewpoint of the game then :)

If you like RPG's the witcher is a step above anything out there,
the fact that every time you talk to even minor npc's the dialogue is varied makes it worth buying it alone

Buy the witcher, rent bioshock as the replay value is pretty limited imo

If you havent played them yet & want something very good that really drags you in go & pick yourself up a copy of Dark Messiah or Overlord, they can be had for about £15 now...

bioshock is good until you realise dieing doesnt matter and you normaly respawn close to were you die. then you can save ammo and kill everything with melee

Agree. Its nice looking but the respawning bit ruined the game for me. Since I upgraded to Vista 64 I havent even bothered to reinstall. Thats my opinion on Bioshock.

Havent played Witcher but heard all good things about it.

IF its RPG you want though witcher is your option out of the two.

I have high hopes for UT3 though which is out this Friday.

Bioshock was good but there wasn't that much of an RPG element to it IMO it was more Linear FPS than anything else the only real RPG aspects was Kill the Lil' sisters or don't kill em' & What Plasmids do you wanna use! +1 The Witcher

Bioshock : Its decent and you'll like it to start off with: using the plasmids and fighting the big daddies etc but i found it really repetitive and the story didnt suck me in as much as i thought it would. Feels kinda samey.

Go Bioshock if you're an FPS fan and not really an RPG fan.

Witcher: Excellent Combat, Excellent story, Nice graphics, Nice lighting system, dark, mature and interesting story not the usual black and white moral route. Best RPG since KOTOR.

Go Witcher if you're more an RPG fan than an FPS fan.

Won't be playing this til the kids are in bed but looking at the intro I'm hoping for a kind of Morrowind meets Legacy of Kain type thing, am I asking too much?

They arent even close to how believable the atmosphere in the Witcher is, it really is the little details and features which set it apart
My main critisism is that they force you into a general spec, you cant really specialise in something

Bioshock is very unstable on my Vista. In fact I never got past first level, it just keeps on crashing to desktop. I couldn't be bothered to try and fix it, because it actually looks very much like "The Ship", flat and last century bar odd whale swimming by every now and then, the game play was very console like as well, there were two much better games of that genre few years ago anyway.

Witcher. Hands down, unless you really dont like RPGs.

Witcher will potentially last you weeks, if you are lucky Bioshock will last you a couple of days. Needless to say I know which one I think is better value for money
