Kinda been a hobby i've been wanting to start off with for AGES but looking at the price of CDJs kinda put me off. Then I stumbled upon this:
http://www.numark.com/product/mixtrackpro

Now, all my music now is pretty much on my hdd so not in mood for burning how-many-gigsworth-of-music I have onto CDs.
Anyone got any thoughts or alternates?

Also, any decent headphones recommendations would be nice. £50 tops I'd say

In the same position myself mate.

The mixtrack pro is supposed to be OK, just not very well built and starts falling apart quite quickly. Controllers take a lot of abuse and slider and pot movement so need to be solid.

I am getting the Kontrol S2. Native Instruments have just done a big price drop on it till the end of March. £329 from £480. Gonna get it that price and see if I like it. If I don't, I should easy be able to make my money back after the price has gone back up.

KONTROL s2 is a great controller, worth grabbing if you take mixing seriously or play out a bit. Otherwise the mixtrack should do the job just fine, but as rob said it is just a bit cheap and flimsy.

This, I have one and it is a good piece of kit but I don't see it lasting all that long. Saying that it has taken a fair bit of abuse so far. If you're just looking for one as a hobby then for the price it is pretty good.

Great timing imo. I say again, get the Kontrol at reduced price, use it to see if you like it and it's worth your investment. If not, easy get your money back (possibly a little profit) and switch to the behringer. It may well not be in the same class as the Kontrol though.

TF - Where have you seen the prices you're quoting? Looks very good for sub £150.

These seem to be quoting around $199

They announced the prices at NAMM 2012. Obviously the S2 will be better, but that Behringer will do everything you need and for half the price.

Not really a fan of these DJ controllers, the build quality is ok ish,you have to remember the faders take some abuse over a period of time,if you must go down the road,i would Recommend vestax .

If you use ableton the,Akai APC40 or 20 is a very very good piece of kit,and can also be used with other software if you wish.

I fully understand the issue of Pricing for the pioneer CDJ'S,but they are the industy standard now,and are the best deck in the world, the 1000's were good, the CDJ 2000's are just pure class and hooked up to a DJM mixer you will not beat this setup.

it may be worth investing in a stand alone sound card in addition to the controller as with the cheaper ones sound quality isnt great imo

hit the djkit website. the staff are very helpful too.

edit. just seen the Traktor S2 for 329. its a steal at that price. very good bit of kit.
