Talk to me about E60's

From what I've seen LPG is nothing but hassle on the M54 and N52 engines (Pre 05 E60 530i's have the 230bhp M54 from the E39).

LPG is getting more and more pointless if you ask me.

You can't use the Channel Tunnel, LPG is nearing 60p/l in places round here now, you lose boot space or your spare wheel and you'll be filling up every other day.

I don't intend on using the Chunnel, 60p vs 106p would depend on what the mpg on lpg is I suppose. The GT doesn't have a spare wheel so I'm already used to no spare!

If it's a no go then that's fine but as I've said with my mileage I need to balance out the best way (best = cost effective) of getting through my daily life.

Pointless. A Sport looks like an M5 anyway so why buy a 'Replica' from an 'M Conversions Company'? The M Sport has the same bodykit as standard, all they've done is fit mirrors and an exhuast, which look good, but then badged it as a real M5 with rear badge and side grilles, which looks stupid.

The body kit isnt the same between an M5 and M-sport. As well as the other bits you mentioned it also has different front wings. I agree though its a bit pointless, plus you will look stupid sitting at the lights with the deisel clatter coming from what looks like an M5.

There can be no doubt that the E60 is a more modern looking car than the E39 both inside and out - because it is. The design is a good 7 years newer for a start. But the E39 is a shape I really love and this isnt because I own one, I own one BECAUSE i like the shape. I WANT to like the E60 becuase it's by far the most logical step for me next but I just can't, so I think E92 will be on the agenda. Which is a shame as it offers much poorer value and isn't built as well.

But hey, other than looks, the E60 is the clear choice in this market.

I have this argument with friends of mine every week at the pub. One of my friends thinks the new 5 is a beautiful car and I agree, we both desperately like it. But I keep telling him the front end of the E39 is much much better. He wont have it though :D

All the E60 needs is redesigned headlight clusters I reckon, get rid of the Dame Edna image and bring back the aggressive look of the E39.

Got it and driven it around 15 miles.

Good car, basically a modernised e39, which is what it's meant to be at the end of the day.

Just as refined, tad more comfortable and thats about it,

contains too much stuff that will go wrong at some point.
Overall a worthy successor to the e39 IMO.

My mum could have told me that. :p

I don't know what else to say :p

I am not an autocar writer :D.

All I can say its more modern and that's about it, driving wise its similar, its just the electronics and exterior which make it seem better (or not for some people)

I found everything electronic to be an improvement over the E39, everything you look at felt more modern and everything tangiable felt like a degredation in quality.

Not sure what you mean, any examples of what there might be?

I thought it was acceptable.

Just general plastics quality really - the stuff you touched.
I thought that the top of the dash was cheapy, the rest was ok though.

The auto shifter is very cool :D although is just another thing to go wrong when a regular shifter will work jsut as well.

I was less impressed with the E60 the first time I drove it compared to how I felt the first time I drove the E39. I like the externals of the E60, its a real grower, but I am not a fan of BMW's angular interiors on their more modern offerings.

agree, interior is very clinical, you sit more on it than in it if you see what i mean.
