Talk to me about E60's

Bland? Hmm

Thats an £80k car not really a fair comparision.

if you're in the market for an E60, i doubt a brand new CL65AMG is going to be in your budget..
dandle - try doubling that figure ;)

This is a fairer comparison between the E60 and a Merc.

I know what I'd rather have.

iDrive is the interface BMW use on their new cars these days. With it you control the Audio, nav, phone, climate control, heated seats etc. It gives you service settings and time intervals for consumable parts like brake pads pollen filters etc. When I recently drove to Derby I sent all the destination info from my pc to the car so when I got in it recieved the destination info and was ready to go. It also has internet services so you can look up points of interest and on the latest cars you have limited web browsing and use of RSS feeds etc. Oh and there voice control on the latest iDrive version 3 too, so everything you want can be controlled by voice.

Heres the history of iDrive.

That sounds absolutely awesome. If you had to rate its overall awesomeness out of 10 what would you give it?

I would give it a 9 out of ten. Its pretty much perfect although I have the latest iDrive though which is supposed to be slightly quicker than the pre March 07 cars one which I havent tried. Its very easy to learn and only a few clicks away from any finction you want.

it can be a pain though
one thing that is ridiculous is the aircon settings.
there used to be a scroll on the E39 between the 2 middle vents that has now moved to the iDrive, which makes the air hot or cold

it's ridiculous as it's quite dangerous trying to fiddle with it while driving.
i used to change it all the time in the E39, but i never bother in the E60 as it's too complicated

Indeed, you end up spending too much time fiddling.

Have driven just over 400 miles in it now, and tis a good car!

Not sure about that huge price tag, or huge potential for stuff to go wrong, will just stick with the e39 for now methinks :D

I doubt many e60 5's will still be running on the sub continent years after their european owners have disposed of them, many such Mercs are still going strong down there.....

And I bet the W123 is the more reliable in the long or short term!

The above said, I'd still have the BMW!

Removes the awful chrome around the windows and stuff. I think SE's have chrome as standard, but the M Sport has dechrome.
