A local 230 has popped up with very large mileage but a full service history and garaged 95% of its life at a v.low price.

Classic insurance comes in at £500 so I am considering it quite seriously and put the extra money I was going to spend on a boring hatch aside for repairs.

I've looked at a few Merc forums but interested in any of your opinions and experiences as well as some idea of servicing pitfalls? (I can do servicing but usually cant be bothered with big jobs unless a lot of money is involved)

Thanks

My dad picked up one of these a few months ago with 210k on the clock, seems to be running pretty well so far but probably too early to tell on the costs. From what little research i've done on it there really isn't anything that goes wrong with this model.

Only issues it has are the rear window delaminating a bit and the heating elements being patchy (apparently pretty common) and the power antenna dosn't work. Not bad for 210k really.

Its of the age just before cars began to get complex so although its a very comfortable ride you don't get as many toys as you'd probably like, AC was an expensive dealer fit option, cruise isn't standard either. But on the plus side i expect he'll have no trouble keeping it running himself. Didn't look myself but apparently spares are pretty availiable at decent prices if you avoid the dealer :)

Think he's getting just under 30mpg on his 14 mile commute which is 80% motorway.
