So I want to add nuts to my diet. Yesterday I bought some monkey nuts as they looked funky, and I like smashing them open. Are these a good healthy nut??

What are the best types of nuts to eat? I'd like to try a few varieties.

I do like Pistachio nuts but they're pretty expensive....

So please tell me all you know about nuts.

Nuts are good for you, but you want the unsalted and unroasted ones for the maximum nutritional benefit.

Brazil nuts and almonds are fantastic.

I really want to post a picture of some testicles but I'd so be banned so I'll just say, I like a good mix of different kinds of nuts. The more different types the more chance of getting everything you need from them. Almonds tend to look the best on paper but are a bit boring without some others in the mix. Brazil nuts tend to have minerals that you don't really find in other nuts in high amounts but this is fairly random as it all depends on the soil they grew from.

Nuts are pretty calorie dense and all so easy to go crazy with so be careful. I've been known to eat silly amounts just sitting not thinking. So while a good thing to eat everything in moderation.

The magazines alright, it's not the best read but in all honesty you only get it for the 'pictures'.

Other nuts news, Nuts are good for you just dont overdo them. crushed nuts in protein shake = winner. Peanutbutter + protein shake + banananananananaramaa = A Meal worthy of a mouthgasm at times!

Just on their own, if you can get some precrushed nuts from 'health' shops or cheaper places then I'd grab them up quickly. 25 - 50g's every other day is a good way to start. I take 50g's every other day atm, usually on my off training days as they are a very good source of fat and fiber for my diet.

Pine nuts are silly awesome for you, but ridiculously expensive. From memory I think they have a very high omega fats content, loads of vit e and a few other things, zinc probably.

The price is just daft though, Cashews are about my favourite nut, quite expensive, bit more than most but way less than pine nuts. Almonds and peanuts are great.

Brazil nuts are good but shouldn't be taken in large quantities, 1000 times more radioactive than the next most radioactive food(still not very radioactive) and high selenium content which is very good for you in small quantities and very bad in higher quantities and 25% saturated fat so not that great there either.

As far as I'm aware, almonds, brazil nuts and pine nuts are the best for you.

drunkenmaster, I promise you will not die of radiation poisoning from eating non-silly quantities of brazils, although I have no idea about the selenium. But I do know that saturated fat is not bad for you.
