Talks continue to save Woolworths

It's strange, I will always look in Woolies but never buy anything. Everything they do is so much more expensive than elsewhere.

Used to always go in there as it was the place to be. Went in last week on the way to the car park. What a load of absolute ***** it's become. I've known it for 50 years since I was a knee high to a grasshopper as the place to get everything you needed for a bargain. Now, it's nothing more than an expensive poundshop.

There is a few rumours around of big name companies going under after christmas not just woolies

Hope they go down the pan after the way they treated me last Christmas, gave me 2 days notice that my emplyment would be ending. Haven't had a permanent job since :(

The atmosphere in woolworths is not that nice, it feels suited to old grannies.

If i go into a supermarket it feels like a supermarket, if i go into a games store i can have a talk about releases with the guys in there etc. If you go to woolworths the games section feels out of place same goes for everything else apart from the toys section.

They should redesign their stores but it's a bit too late now.

2 days? Not good but I've heard worse - sounds like some of the Rosebys employees got about 2 minutes when they finally went under.

If the government push through the 15% VAT they've been talking about next week it might save a few retailers from going under. Woolies has had the odd near miss in the past as said but it would be a pity to see it go.

I really doubt that £2 off a £100 purchase will save anyone. Now scrapping vat altogether, that could actually work.

I didn't even realise woolworths was still in business, haven't been in one for about 10 years.

Putting the current economic crisis to one side do you not think that it was inedible that this was going to happen due to consumers spending more on-line these days, I barely buy anything in high street stores unless I have to, I mean I haven't really heard of many big on-line stores getting into financial difficulty recently, they seem to be going from strength to strength.

I for one can't wait for high street shops to go bankrupt along with their extortionate prices, long live the internet!

Don't be too hasty, I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes to browse the highstreet stores, looking for stuff I want to buy off the internet when I get home :p

That's funny becuase it's so true lol, I use high street stores in the same way, If I see something I like I usually whip my camera phone out, take a quick snap of the model number and then google it when I get home :D.

No loss really. It is just not a viable shop these days, the recession has just speeded things up, if it survives it will have to change or it is just a matter of time.

As said it just sells too much random stuff without being that cheap. It is only because of the brand name and that it is on the highstreet that it survives.
