And I use the term 'Broadband' lightly >.< If anything it should be called extreme narrowband, the service I am receiving lately is absolutely pathetic. I used to be with Tiscali until TalkTalk took over and since then Youtube videos take an eternity to download, my ping on Steam is over 100, ftp downloads crawl along at 40k and under. In the past I was able to reach 170k (the max my line can do) on a good morning but I just can't take this anymore.
The evenings are painful with this unbearable service.
Does anyone else use TalkTalk, is this normal?! And can anyone recommend a GOOD ISP, that delivers consistent speed even in the evenings?

Thanks!

We were with Tiscali, had no idea they had changed to TalkTalk untill our router packed up and there was no Tiscali website.

But our speed hasn't changed one bit.

Bethere are great, but if you can only download at 170k from FTPs then you're no doubt miles from the exchange so won't get great speeds.

Im with Bethere and my connection is very stable and very consistent. You can get £40 cashback too if you go through topcashback website.
I only pay £6/month for 8meg unlimited, although I think it was a special offer at the time. The cheapest I can see now is just over £13/month for unlimited 8meg.

Thanks for your help guys :) unfortunately Bethere is telling me:

"The bad news: BE broadband is not technically-compatible with the type of landline you currently have."

Whatever does that mean :S I guess it needs LLU, of which my exchange is not :( and yes I am some distance from the exchange..about 2 or 3 miles..perhaps a migration back to Orange is in order, I found their service far more consistent and reliable than TalkTalk is being.

I use Talktalk no issue's here at all. It's 99% reliable for me, get my constant 6meg (good for Aberdeen!) and never had any issues with download limits and such.

Hi, I'm with TT and i'm happy with the service. The issue i find with a 'low cost' provider such as TT, is that if the service works, it's pretty good, however if there are problems you're pretty much *insertsweary*.

Advice would be to register on the TT forums http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/index.php , fill out the 'sticky questionaire' and add it to your first post with a copy/paste of your router stats and a summary of your issues.. The community has some knowledgeable members (excluding me) and the OCEs (TT online staff) are very good versus the Indian call center crowd.

I've been a TT customer for a few years, if it wasn't for the forum i'd be long gone. Give as much info as you can, and with a good attitude you should get your connection sorted.Good luck!

EDIT. If you want a hand let me know. The TT staff work oldest post to newest, so if your origional post is lacking in info, you may recieve a response asking for clarification, which may result in a 24/48 hr wait. Bed time!

I use talk talk, after signing up long ago with Tiscali. The service runs fine, obviously a little slow down at peak times but all is cool. Over a month however, up until 2 weeks ago the service was a bit dodgy. Turns out that was because they were installing their own LLU hardware into the local BT Exchange, and their the only provider to do this in the area, and now instead of BT and any other provider (through BT) there the only provider offering upto 16mb as opposed to 8mb in this area.

This happened without me knowing at the time, only realised when I contacted them after getting ****ed at the service after a few weeks. Turns out there doing this in a lot of places, and have more of their own LLU hardware set ups in BT exchanges than any other proivder. Don't know if this may be the reason for your area but worth checking before a switch maybe, the speed went up from around 6.5mb/s average (with the upto 8mbs service) to now around 13mb/s average with no extra cost!
