Hi,

A friend of mine is on TalkTalk and said he has had two routers in the past 6 months from them and both have given him grief with dropped connections etc. He asked me if it was possible to just buy a 'higher performance' router of some sort and connect that up. I assume this is possible? What is involved in connecting up a new non-TalkTalk router and getting connected/up and running?

Any advice greatly appreciated. :)

If it's ADSL then any ADSL router should work fine. I used to use a Billon 7800n with both ADSL and fibre with Talktalk. As for setting the router up you don't need the user name or password as it's all done automatic, but some routers don't let you leave the user name and password empty just put anything in it should still work.

I find the new talktalk super router(HG635) very good stable with good wifi, the best ISP router I have used. I would say its a lot better than the billon I used before, but with anything you can get bad ones.
The old Talktalk routers were not very good, they would lose connection and drop wifi all the time or just stop working altogther needing a reboot to fix.

I have the new Super router. No problems and good range

Tbh my TT service has always been good

Been with TalkTalk from when they took over Tiscali and never had any problems i've been using a Billon 7800n and a Linksys WAG320N on and off for the last few years both good routers
