Hi

So I've been with talktalk for quite a few years with no issues as i've not need their lack of customer care.
We moved house although i'm still at old address for a bit, whilst stuff is moved, anyway I went on their website to move home but every time I selected keep number it would say option not available.
I then decided to just get a new number and be done with it, so completed web form.
A few days go by and i get a welcome to talktalk and find they've started me on a new contract, eventually after several days I manage to get hold of someone at talktalk to say i didn't want a new contract just the original one changed to new address, even get told I can keep my old number!
On 2nd it was supposed to go live 14 days after ending at old address!! No internet but we have a dial tone, randomly i decide to call my mobile from it to find that it's a totally different number to my old one and i'm assuming the reason i'm getting no internet, I then get told by talktalk that they need to send an engineer out but wont need to come to the address, that was today and yup still no internet!

Anyone know if I can speak to openreach direct as I don't think talktalk have enough brain cells to rub together to sort it themselves.

Cheers

There appears to be some problem with retaining your number if you move from TalkTalk to another provider - I can't remember what it was. I suspect that with unbundling they did something which is now deemed unacceptable. This may explain why you have issues moving house.

My other concern with TalkTalk was that when DiDo Harding was in charge they seemed to be completely out of control. I still get regular phone calls from "Tech Support at TalkTalk" to tell me that my PC has been compromised and that they need remote access to sort out the problem

When I tell them that I am a BT customer they correct themselves and say that they are from "Tech Support at BT" :D

I work in the telecommunications field and must say talktalk are absolutely awful. Much better off with BT or Virgin.

I am with BT and just renewed my contract - I pay line rental yearly which gives you a month for free - Kept my old BB package (70 down 20 up) kept anytime calls and got a sim card with free unlimited calls -text and 1 gig data (I don't need anymore) all for £23 month - since then added a sim for wife at £5 month with same deal as mine.
Forget going online, BT has what I think as the worst web site ever designed by monkeys. Just ring up.

After almost an hour long phone call this morning, which I was told it hadn't been processed properly and would be the 28th now I threw my toys out the pram and am no longer a talktalk customer.
Had a decent chat with BT and a 21st live date.

Are you moving house to a different exchange area? It’s often not possible to keep your number in those circumstances unless you port it to a VoIP provider and sort your own phones/ATA out.

nope same area code, only moved a mile if that :D

As someone who dealt with exactly this issue daily for years, it doesn’t matter if you move next door, if the original providing exchange doesn’t cover where you are moving to, the official answer is you need to be issued a new number. With VoIP, that’s not an issue. I can even cite examples where if a customer disconnects and reconnects in the same property they couldn’t have the same number as the area was subject to a switch split years ago and now they fall on the wrong side of a line that didn’t exist when they signed up.

Cheers bt didn't seem to have issues with it, although unfortunately they can't do anything till after the 15th as talktalk have set up a go live of 15th now

Bt have said wait till 16th then contact them to proceed, but they've kept me in the loop about whats going on, unlike talktalk!

BT play fast and loose with ports, if you are moving an ex BT nunber, they are absolutely rigid on the process, you must have a mobility check and port reference number done in advance and give the required notice or they will fail it. Strangely when they cocked up my port in from a 3rd party and ignored the issue till well past the point the agreed process allows them to re-port it in, they still managed to do so. They would never allow that with a BT number, I know this as I had to credit customers with 12 months line rental who had to go back to BT to retain a number in the past. Still as long as you’re sorted, it’s all good.

Will update on 16th but at moment i'm just fingers crossed, talktalk have kind of responded on there "community forum" where i ranted some what!
