TalkTalk Website Hit By Cyber-Attack

Argh how can a website leak credit card data you utter clowns

My head hurts thinking about how many mistakes were made for this to be possible.

Oh wonderful I'm with talktalk (yes I know!)
Close eye on the bank account! Gotta pay for new clutch tomorrow :(

Most websites nowadays don't store credit card info anyway, it's goes through a merchant and the info is encrypted anyway. Yes encrypted data can be decrypted I know, but how TalkTalk was attacked we don't know? could have been as simple as SQL Injection and the tables/columns could have been accessed and dumped and customers names and addresses extracted etc.

I doubt TalkTalk would have stored CC information on their servers.

There will always be errors if humans are allowed to be in control of developing systems, if it can be made it can unmade. It only takes a certain loophole in code to allow someone to exploit it for things like this to happen.

Most they probs got was names and address and to be honest you can get them anywhere..

It said there was a chance that some of the following customer data had been accessed:

◾Names and addresses
◾Dates of birth
◾Email addresses
◾Telephone numbers
◾TalkTalk account information
◾Credit card and bank details

Yeah they have to say there is a "chance" because their servers/database have been compromised.

The likelihood that the attackers have managed to extract credit card information would be relatively low, and I highly doubt that if there was infact credit card information stored and that it would be in plain view to see, it will definitely will be hashed/encrypted. If the encryption was not a common one like MD5 etc, then the algorithm would need to be found out and cracked anyway.

Not saying there isn't a chance though but I doubt anyone needs to worry about their financial information. The days are mostly gone where webshops keep CC info stored on their databases for reasons such as this, especially a big company such as TalkTalk.

We're see!

I'm with TalkTalk unfortunately and ever since the CPW breach a few months ago I checking my noddle and bank/credit card statements every day. I'm appalled they've managed to breach again so soon after CPW.

TalkTalk also explained that not all of the data potentially compromised was encrypted. Other than stating their systems are constantly under review and updated to make them as secure as possible, the company didn't offer any additional details on the data that was and wasn't encrypted.

How to inspire confidence...

4 million customers!!!! How the hell does a provider with such bad reputation still have customers! This isn't going to do them any favours...

It's one person with 4 million accounts.

Probably my mum, she's got so many copies of the same directory of photos on her computer it beggars belief, so it wouldn't surprise me if she had 4 million TalkTalk accounts.
