Hi,

I am looking at joining TalkTalk for broadband and phone + line rental. Whilst I know that TalkTalk have a lot of negative reviews I was wondering if anyone on here has used them and what there experiences are?

I am looking at taking out the Plus Package

I have a few questions for any one that might be using the Plus package:

Is it LLU?

Do TalkTalk throttle speeds in the evenings?

Can you get a static IP?

Thanks for your help.

Hi there

We've recently moved to from Sky (non LLU) to Talktalk (LLU) - given the fact we would probably have had a better broadband connection if we lived on the moon and ran a single piece of copper wire from our exchange to our router when we were with Sky's joke of a "Broadband service" Talktalk has been like a breathe of fresh air.

Here's a copy of my stats with Talktalk:

I've had a couple of drop outs (in 4 months) which I've put down to the router itself and they do employ traffic shaping however I'm still downloading more than my agreed quota every month and they've not mentioned this or capped me yet, the throttling isn't sufficient to cause any significant issues with my normal browsing / gaming. I admit I've never had to deal with their customer service or tech support yet but all in all I'm perfectly happy with the service I'm receiving from them :)

My understanding is if you use the Talktalk business service you'll get a static IP addy - failing that it'll be dynamic. Hope this helps?

TakTalk still have awful issues with billing and customer service. however they're cheap. All my mates who have TalkTalk get terrible reductions in speed when it's the busy periods, ie 6 - 10pm weekdays and all weekend. Most find they can only download at about a quarter what they can during business hours. I personally wouldn't touch them with a bargepole after spending hours sorting out mates rubbish connections on their behalf..

Re: Sonea Fifer - yes Sky's non LLU or Connect service is pants. Their LLU service however is tremendous, and coupled with a Sky HD+ box which enables Anytime+ is tremendous value for money as well.

I don't know how TalkTalk Business prices compare to their "Home" products.
I'm on their Business service (just me at home, not a business in any way).
I don't see any speed reductions - they do say their "Business Users" get priority traffic.
I also have the added feature of a static IP address.

Might be worth looking into.

I'm with TT because they are the only company offering me an LLU service.
So I moved from 7mb/500k with Nildram to 15mb/1mb with TT LLU.

TalkTalk have been fine for me. Parents have been with them for years, I've been with them for just over a year.

Customer service over the phone isn't great (something they share with many ISPs, to be honest), but service from the OCEs on the TT members forums has always been exceptional in my experience. They've managed to get me a semi-stable 2.5meg line despite being eleventy trillion miles from the Burton-on-Trent exchange.

Tiscali / Talk Talk non LLU.

Which means ~450 kb/s downloading through Steam & Usenet.

Today is actually the fastest it's been on about a week. Past few days Speedtest has been reporting < 1 Mb/s, downloading anything has been impossible. To me it's slow and it's absolutely ****! But for my parents it's cheap and cheerful. :(

We're a Pipex customer but it's basically TalkTalk (CPW) now. From personal experience the connections been terrible for like the last year. Sometimes it will be fine for quite a while and other times it can be up and down for days or weeks. Frequent connection drops are the most common thing and the declining download speed.

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole but then it's up to you. You may be lucky and get a solid connection with them. They're cheap prices are what attract people in so you get what you pay for.

This was my LLU TalTalk connection this evening:

Usually see closer to 16mb - so maybe a little busy this evening.
But of course we're talking LLU vs BT MAX (non-LLU Talk Talk) so not really fair to compare.

Same thing for me. Had years of great, almost uninterrupted internet from Pipex, and in the month or so since I received the letter from them saying TalkTalk had taken them over my internet has been up and down like a yo-yo.

Planning on getting as far away from TalkTalk as humanly possibly as quickly as possible.

I'm on talktalk and have been for a couple of years.

As long as we don't have to contact them for any reason they're fine. It took A LOT of conversing with their customer service team to get it right in the first place and a lot of complaining.

Now I have a latency of about 30ms and a connection of 7mb/s. The modem is crap, so often have to reset it due to wireless drop outs. Other than that, can download all day long at full speed with no problems.

It depends on your area tbh.
I have Sky unlimited broadband and can download at 1mb/s, my OH is with TT, lives 3 doors away from me and cant even get above .2mb/s. Mine is cheaper and I've never lost connection, she looses connection at least once a day.

I've been with TalkTalk since they first brought out their free broadband offer. Only had one issue in that time, and it was something with their auth server which lasted around 4 hours.

I've recently had a final warning letter from them saying i'd breached their 40GB cap (first letter went in the bin courtesy of the mother, thanks for that!) so had to pay a bit extra to go onto their unlimited package (Whatever that is...)

Shaping is pretty bad during the week, but late night and weekends are fair game, which is good. Decent speeds for my area, but don't have ADSL2+ yet which is a kick in the crotch :(

Compared to what I was getting out of Sky before it's night and day better, the only support I've used was their forum and that was excellent, I've never rang them up (ever).

It's LLU, you don't get an static IP, I always download everything overnight or during the day while I'm at work so I've never been capped, not aware they even do a cap (I'm on unlimited).

FTTC comes at the end of October so I will be getting their "fiber boost" as soon as it's available ;)

I have been with TalkTalk since they first came out as TalkTalk, not had too many issues but over the last month I have been fobbed off and told my connection is fine by the forum CS who are hopefully just about admitting there is a problem with my line when there are no outages or anything like that and I live close to my exchange running usually a quality connection. I currently have this:
