So I'm looking at Z4s now to replace my MX5 - much as I love it, it's just too uncomfortable for me now (back back).

I'm looking at a Z4 2.5 or 3.0 around 2004/5 or so but I've never actually sat in one - am I completely wasting my time at 6ft 5" , or is it like the MX5 in that a taller person can fit but it's not overly comfortable?

Essentially I'd like to be able to drive the 2 hours between my house and my parents without being horrendously broken at the other end like I tend to be now!

The obvious answer is to go sit in one which I will do but that only gives you a short indication rather than comfort on a longer journey.

Any experience welcomed!

So, I'm 6'3" and a large build and wouldn't want to be any taller, however skinnier people will be able to if you have longer legs than I. For me, the issue is back height, but then I only wear a 31" inside leg, which isn't that long so more of my height is in my back. I still have the seat as far back and as far down as it goes though...

Long trips are not bad, though it depends which seats you get and which you prefer. If you come to the next South East meet in Sevenoaks there should be two Z4s there so you could always try if there's none locally.

Going to say what Marvin said about coming to the next south eastern meet to have a try as it shouldn't be to far for you to travel.

I struggled getting in and out of one and I'm only 6'1" but I am rather broad too. Wasn't that bad driving in it but would hate to think what would happen to my legs if it was ever in an accident.

That sounds like a good idea actually - when is it :p

So far it's as I expected, it's all about build. I'm a lanky streak of **** so width isn't an issue!

Lanky should be fine - I think there are a number of guys on the Z4 Forum at 6'5" or above.

As for the meet, details are here.

I'm 6 3 and fill a doorway. I'd look I'll if I was 15st. I sat in one didn't even bother closing the door. Far too small, knees dug in the dash and couldn't get my left lug under the steering wheel without a struggle.

6' 2" and 15st. I was fine in mine, covered 4,500 in one road trip in comfort. Having said that I think I was at the limit in terms of size so the only way you'll know for sure is to try it.

I work as a vehicle mover and I am 6'5".

2 weeks ago I moved a Z4M from Northampton to a Car auction in Bristol and had the vehicle for a couple of days. Getting in and out of the Z4 was ok, but after a long journey I can honestly say pretty much everything ached, neck, back, legs, knees etc.

It was a bit of a hoot to drive but that was overshadowed by the pain of the long journey. I am sure the whole experience was exacerbated by the fact the cruise control failed and I had to do a lot more distance driving than I wanted, but it was an auto, so maybe the pain wasn't as bad as it would have been had it been a manual.

At our size we are better off with a performance saloon/hatchback, Focus ST, Impreza, Evo etc.

Ah that sucks :(
I've heard there are a couple of seat options so I wonder if that makes a difference?
