of on holiday (canary islands so some volcano work) soon and am needing a good alround lens and i have this one in mind i will be using a canon 350d and am just looking for info or opinions on it

looking at this lens more on sites it says its equiv to 45-480mm on film is it just this lens like that if not what would that make my sigma 70-300mm would it be the same or would it be 480mm at the high end
 
thanks for clearing that up if that is the case then there would be no need in order the tamron as i might as well save up for longing and look at getting an L lens from canon or something along the lines that i can use as an alrounder as well as astrophotography
