Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 IS on Sony A7S? Body or lens stabilisation

If purchasing the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD lens, Canon mount (featuring IS/VC), and mounting it onto the Sony A7S body using the metabones speed booster, will the Image Stabilization (Vibration Compensation) function operate out of the camera or the lens?

I ask as the Sony mount version doesn't come with IS as Sony cameras control IS out of the camera.

I can't help, but I would also be interested to know.
I ordered a Tamron 24-70 (nikon mount) once but it had an issue selecting F4 (common problem apparently).

Also I'm not sure if I would want optical stabilisation on a lens when shooting video, unless there was no other stabilisation option. I find optical stabilisation smooths video allot.. but you occasionally get fast jerky movement that looks like a stutter.

I'm tempted with something like the below stabiliser. It would add more weight, but I could use a lighter lens to offset the weight gain as the Tamron is a pretty heavy lens.

I often use both steadicam and shoulder rigs for different situations, but handheld is also a nice way to shoot and I find that I always prefer IS over none in that scenario.

The video above demonstrated IS when walking which I would never choose to do. When standing still, its a much nicer image though.

Unless I am mistaken None of the Sony Alpha NEX cameras have any kind of of stabalisation and instead require lens based stabilisation.

Therefore use the Tamron's VC feature.

We understand that, we just want to know if it works ok with the metabones adaptor.

@Op
Btw are you using the speedbooster to reduce the jelly effect of the rolling shutter?

That isn't obvious from the OP. the OP asks "will the Image Stabilization (Vibration Compensation) function operate out of the camera or the lens?"

Sounds like he wants to know if the camera will provide IS, not if the IS function of the lens will work. But it is ambiguous.

Yes it is ambiguous. I assumed he was getting the Canon mount knowing the Sony version has no VC, and thus he wouldn't be able to have stabilisation at all.

Apparently Sony 'can' do IBIS for the FE mount, so hopefully we will see some in the future. It would be great to shoot with stabilised fast primes...

This is correct. I had read that the A7S provides its own IS, despite the A7 and A7R not doing - but I can no longer find that source, or any other sources that mention it. I wanted to know whether the lens having VC as well as the body would cause a conflict, but as it now seems that the body actually doesn't have it, then it isn't an issue (even though VC still won't be functional out of the lens).

The reason for wanting to go with Canon mount/speed booster is actually because I regularly use C100/C300 and would like a lens that I can use on any of the 3.

yeah I don't think the A7s has stabilization, not even the APS-C NEX cameras do.

Depending on what you are doing you might want to look at AF performance if you mount a canon lens onto the A7S. Obviously for video MF this doesn't matter.

For video you might want to look at some of the older lenses that have much better gearing for MF work 9although you wont get a 24-70mm MF lens)
