My other half has bought a Tanglewood TD-8 Acoustic guitar for me to learn to play on. Now, we know very little about guitars, and am hoping that some kind soul could provide a little guidance.

Are they a decent guitar for the money, I think she's paid around £150 for it. It's apparently been recently voted the USA's top acoustic guitar, but that doesn't mean a lot - depends who's doing the voting.

The fact that it's £150 is not a huge issue, but I just want to make sure she's not been ripped off.

Helpfull guidance and comments would be gratefully recieved.

Nice guitars for the price. :)

If you have a friend that plays guitar, then I'd get them to have a little tinker with the truss rod. Get it a little tighter hopefully, and get the action down a bit. Should make it easier to play.

I have the bowl-back electro-acoustic. Nice to play and looks good, especially for the money, but it won't be the last acoustic I buy. Excellent for beginners and intermediates though, and beyond to an extent. I'm currently on the lookout for something with a nicer tone, but that's mainly because the bowl-back of course has a smaller body. Not tried the standard shape.
